We love campus and community radio. The last couple of decades have brought lots of changes to almost every form of media, and seeing these stations standing at the end of it all is inspiring. They connect people, support artists and build community. They are vital and brilliant. We really like CJSR, and all of the folks that run it.

Last year, Aaron Getz from Hot Plains asked if we wanted to help throw a CJSR show to cap off their Fundrive, and of course we did. This year, we revisited the idea and worked with Hot Plains, plus other friends like JCL Productions and filmmaker Eden Monroe and figured out a bunch of cool events. Then we called it a Festival, with hopes of making it more of a festival next year. We called it AIRTIGHT, based on the name of CJSR’s old zine and current newsletter.

The tough part of booking shows to honour CJSR during their Fundrive is that the people who make the station happen are too busy to enjoy most of the music, which is why we have the wrap party a week later, so they can sleep a little.

We are very proud of this.

By Divine Right is a Canadian indie rock institution — a band that has been quietly shaping the sound of Toronto for more than three decades. Formed in 1989 and led ever since by singer, guitarist, and producer José Miguel Contreras, the group has become both a beloved act in its own right and a legendary proving ground: among the roughly two dozen musicians who have passed through its ranks are Brendan Canning and Leslie Feist, who played in the band in the late '90s before going on to help found Broken Social Scene. Members of Holy Fuck have also done time in the fold.

Through every lineup, Contreras has remained the constant creative force, crafting what critics call "airy, hazy, pop-infused rock'n'roll" — psychedelic pop that balances diamond-sharp melodies with all-out noise. Hailed as one of the most important Canadian indie bands of the '90s — and still going strong — By Divine Right remains as sharp, hazy, and hook-driven as ever.

With a name that demands attention, Status/Non-Status is a band that boldly explores Indigenous identity, politics, and ancestry. Their music blends folk rock, psychedelia, post-rock, and grunge into powerful soundscapes that resonate with emotional depth and cultural significance.

Adam Sturgeon—lead singer and Anishinaabe community worker—is the driving force behind Status/Non-Status. Defined as “non-status” by the Canadian government, Sturgeon’s identity is rooted in the complex history of his family. His grandfather enfranchised to join the Armed Forces and become a Canadian citizen, creating a legacy that Sturgeon confronts in his music and work. His artistic journey is deeply intertwined with raising awareness about the impact of colonization while striving to reconnect with his Anishinaabe/Potawatomi roots and community. Committed to analyzing and questioning colonial systems of oppression, his work reflects the struggles of his people and offers a path toward healing.
