Have you ever come back from a European adventure, only to see a social media of somewhere you just were, with an amazing attraction you missed out on? I know I have. Every time I do, I think if only I had more time to before my trip I might have noticed it in time to add to my itinerary.

Do you sit in your hotel room spinning your wheels for far too long figuring out which historic castle makes sense to go see during the day? Which begs the question…

If you spent your entire trip trying to decide where to eat or how to get to your attraction, did you even travel? Did you really immerse yourself in your destination?

Wouldn’t you rather spend the limited time you have on your trip enjoying the experience? Not expending extra energy into the late evening or early morning deciding what you need to do that day or the next.

Planning ahead doesn’t mean you have a written itinerary for every minute of your trip.

Planning ahead means you have an understanding of your destination.

You know which restaurants the locals go to in Porto to get a francesinha and what time they get busy.

You know what time to get in line for the Vatican Museums the last Sunday of the month.

I used to try to cram as many countries and cities in to my Europe trips as I could.

Rushing from one destination to the next.

While it was fun, it was also exhausting.

I got my photos, but I didn’t get to enjoy the experience as much as I could have.

Now I stick to one country per trip.

And I get to experience all it has to offer.
