I put off posting about your death for as long as possible because I thought I would manage to find the words before your funeral. But your funeral was today and the words still escape me … they probably always will 💔  The chaplain called your death “untimely” and while it’s true, I still doubt there is ever a time anyone who truly knew you would willingly let go of you. While the deep and profound grief of your loss is here to stay, today I’m choosing to root myself in gratitude … 
- Gratitude for your rich life and your beautiful spirit

- Gratitude for the countless people you touched (your mother was right about your wingspan being far and wide)

- Gratitude for the many ways you championed the underprivileged and marginalized through your work as an educator, coach, and community organizer

- Gratitude for your joy, which was just as magnetic as it was a salve to everyone you crossed paths with

- Lastly, I reserve my 𝘥𝘦𝘦𝘱𝘦𝘴𝘵 gratitude for whatever it was you saw in me and thought it was worth latching on to. What a gift it was that you felt like I was someone worth holding on to … someone worth sharpening and tending to.

Love you man. Rest easy.

Much love to @yahdon and his brainchild @literaryswagbookclub 🙏🏿🖤📚 Even now as it has come to a close it’s hard to put into words what it represented.

Book club … sure.

But also part fashion show where what you wore to that month’s meeting might garner just as much attention as what you had to say.

Some months the author of the book would pull up, roll up their sleeves and jump right into the discussion as well (shoutout @cheemobile, @dapperdanharlem, @goodtalkthanks, and Nicole Dennis-Benn to name a few).

Folks are often surprised when I say I’m actually not a big reader but Literary Swag helped reignite my interest in not only reading more consistently but also returning back to fiction which was a mainstay of my childhood but got lost somewhere along the way.

Above everything else @literaryswagbookclub cultivated a really beautiful community that I’m grateful I was able to be a part of. Many of the relationships I formed around the table at @thebkcircus have blossomed into deep friendships and folks I’ve been rocking with heavy ever since.
