30 years,
At least that many apple pies, and even more blessings.
Thanks to everyone who makes this ramble of mine possible and beautiful. by @doug_days

I did it y’all, I cut my hair and I ran off to the big city.
Loving life, blowing bubbles, and planting gardens wherever I can.
Presently on a mission to see the last of the 50 states!
The world is too crazy to not go be crazy in it.
Love, Doug. by @doug_days

Be good my neighbor,
While the ice storm passes on,
We carry on too
Crazy week, crazy storm, and a crazy country.
But everywhere you look, folks are remembering their neighbors.
Care and compassion are radical acts.
@theremix_way and @musiccitymigrawatch are doing great work in this city. And so are so many others.
The more I see the more hope I have, don’t let the internet fool you, people still take care of eachother.
Especially in times like these. (Pictures are unrelated) by @doug_days

If you’ve been wondering what I’ve been up to.
Lots.
Building things, seeing things, arting things, etc.
Very grateful. For all of it.

It’s been a crazy window of time.
I’ve moved out of the venue I poured my whole life into for a time, (for lots of reasons) I have traveled, I have cleared brush, have built gardens with friends, and I have learned a lot about living and loving myself better.
The path is not always clear living as an artist, sometimes things outside of your control can make waves that you cannot climb.
All I can say is that a little grace and a little friendship goes a long way.
Be good, to yourself and to the collective.
That tends to do good. For all of us.
Also go plant your garden.
That helps too I think. by @doug_days

Doug, home at last.

When our friendship began 10 or so years ago, one of my first comments was encouraging him to find his way to Burning Man as soon as he was able. Before ever attending a regional — let alone the big burn — Doug was more of a burner than most veteran burners.

Bard of the desert, forger of spell-infused pendants, wiggler of body and soul; in a culture based on a principle of gifting, Doug is a gift to all whose paths he crossed.

Witnessing a friend so profoundly in his element made my first Burn in 11 years even made more special than I could have imagined, and I’m so profoundly grateful to @doug_days @astara.aswithin and all the friends and fellow Starfighters who made it such a magical return home.

These are some of my favorite photographs I made of Doug, shot on 3 different film cameras across 5 film stocks, developed & scanned in ABQ by the good folks of @pictureperfectfilmlab.

Photos include: Lane Family Sunset Traditions honored, offerings to El Pulpo Magnífico, explorations of art, many a trumpeted doot-doot, impromptu concerts atop geodesic pyramids, an absurd amount of miles covered by bike, and all sorts of other shenanigans.

I’m excited to share many more of the people, art, adventure, and place that made those Doug Days in the desert so special. #burningman #curioserandcurioser #burningman2024 #blackrockcity by @doug_days

A few weeks ago Doug and I set off for a midweek waterfall quest in search of some much needed wilderness therapy. En route, one of my car’s valves decided that going any faster than 40mph wasn’t going to happen, and so we promptly exited the highway halfway between nashville and nowhere to call AAA. There — off the exit ramp and around the corner under the highway overpass — was an unattended church, a creek, and a graveyard with headstones dating back to the mid 1800s. While waiting a tow, we explored the creek and eventually stopped for a game of chess. The game ended in a bare king stalemate, and the tow truck never came. We opted to hobble along backroads to Terry’s Auto, stumbling across many lovely spots along the way, including what is shown in the first photo: Doug admiring all that remains of an old homestead on a hill — the hearth.

All these photos were shot on the clunky film camera I’ve been lugging around the last few months that most would probably think of as an $8 doorstop, but I still find the photos it makes, and the memories associated with them, to be of sentimental value beyond measure. #film #friendship by @doug_days
