Looking back on 2024, the most fun I had on stage was as Nick Arnstein in “Funny Girl” at Maine State Music Theatre, directed by Kenny Ingram @thekennyingram and starring Jenna Lea Rosen @jennalearosen. I’ll never forget all that I learned from our amazingly talented cast, and the joy that everyone brought to that rehearsal room and production every single day. taken in Maine State Music Theatre by @douglasraywilliams

The feeling of being free is one of my greatest personal values. Everyone is entitled to that feeling. If it can happen on stage, when it happens, it is a freedom like no other. If I can let go and allow my most playful dreams or darkest passions to speak uninhibited through a character, and share that moment with an audience, that is where theater lives for me. I probably get some of that from my dad who has spent his entire life obsessed with unpowered flight (hang-gliding and sail planes). To step into the wind and trust and soar, seeking something spiritual in the freedom of rising thermal air.

Lacking my dad’s wings but with the plumage of Papageno, I got to soar on stage in the recent “Magic Flute” at Opera Atelier. I didn’t expect this character to give as much opportunity as he did. Thanks to everyone for making it happen and letting me play.

I’m departing Aix after a very rich three weeks, with a full heart and gratitude to the colleagues and friends who made it an unforgettable time. Provence is magic.

Nero in Reinhard Keiser’s “Octavia” is definitely one of the weirdest and most interesting roles I’ve done. I always appreciate an acting challenge. The opera opens today. Toi toi toi to this beautiful team of artists who have explored this little-known work over the last month.
