This Saturday night, I'm back with my Basie family in Pittsburgh, PA at The Manchester Craftsman Guild (MCG). The Basie band has a long history with MCG, including winning a Grammy® for a live recording we made from the stage of MCG in 1997. Joining us this Saturday will be the Grammy® nominated singer Nneena Freelon. We hope to see you there. Peace - DL

As many of my friends and colleagues know, I am not a fan of streaming services. As a matter of fact, for many reasons, I loathe them. But, it has come to my attention that a few albums from my past (from several different record labels) have recently started appearing on streaming platforms around the world. Here is an excerpt of "Soul Street" featuring solos from my buddies Freddie Hendrix, Frank Basile and myself along with Dan Trudell, John Webber and Joe Farnsworth from an album released several years ago on the "Junkie Jazz" label. This tune along with "I Want A Little Girl" from the same album are currently trending as my most played cuts on Apple Music. I hope those that stream, enjoy! Peace - DL

Well, this will be a first! I've done plenty of interviews throughout my 50+ year career, both on radio and film/video/TV, but I have never been interviewed on ESPN! My relationship to sports? I grew up on a street in Albuquerque with childhood besties who went on to play for a World Series winning baseball team and major college football, track and basketball teams. Little did I know then, it was 2 blocks of really amazingly gifted atheletes. I didn't know how great they really were. All I knew was, I was always last in the 100 yd dash! 😂 I also have an older brother who played college ball and who's son (my nephew) played in the big leagues for the Toronto Blue Jays. I myself loved sports, in particular, basketball. Unfortunately, I was never as good as my running buddies. BTW, my Highland High School basketball team also won it's only state championship ever with my childhood friends leading the way. By then, though, I was in the stands playing clarinet in the pep band! 😂 This should be an interesting and fun interview. Thanks JC (who seems like a great guy) for asking me. Tomorrow morning, I'll be the only guest on his show from 10am to 10:45am. I hope you tune in. Peace, DL

I am so happy and really proud of my Nuevo Mexico bands featuring the GREAT HILLARY SMITH on vocals. We played Friday night to a SOLD-OUT audience in Santa Fe, NM at UNIT B (w/Dan Trudell-piano, Gordy Johnson-bass, John Trentacosta-drums) and on Saturday night we added Pete Ahmal-drums, Dimi DiSanti-guitar and Paul Gonzales-trumpet for another SOLD-OUT show at the Albuquerque Musuem JAZZ UNDER THE STARS series (300+ in attendance). Both great audiences here in Nuevo Mexico! I'm happy to report that jazz is alive and well in the Land Of Enchantment! A VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU to presenter Tom Guralnick, the head of the Outpost Performance Space and New Mexico Jazz Workshop. He is truly a National Treasure as well as a hero for the music and arts here in New Mexico. We all love you, Tommy. Until next time - Peace, DL
