🇨🇦 We’re honored to announce that Who Moves America will have its International Premiere this Thursday and Friday at the 2026 Vancouver International Film Festival as part of the Insights program, celebrating documentaries that challenge how we see the world and the collective power to change it.

📍 Vancouver International Film Festival
🗓️ October 8 • 6:00 PM
🗓️ October 9 • 1:30 PM

The festival writes that director @yaelbridge “brings a clear-eyed attention to organizing as an everyday practice, compiling footage from meetings, rallies, votes, and the ordinary moments where people decide what they owe one another… Who Moves America turns labour struggle into a human drama of risk, solidarity, and building power.”

Thank you to @viffest, media partner @thetyee, and community partners @docubc, @doxafestival, and @reel_causes for helping bring this story to Vancouver.

Tickets at the link in bio.

Andrea Warner has been a long-time friend and supporter of DOXA. Through her work in music journalism and her generous support of organizations such as DOXA, Warner has done so much to uplift and celebrate Canadian arts and culture. DOXA is privileged to have worked with Warner, who was a DOXA donor and one of the founders of our past Vancouver Podcast Festival. We fondly remember her hosting trivia fundraisers for DOXA, as well as our virtual 20th Anniversary Event during COVID lockdowns. We are saddened by the news of Warner's passing, and we extend our deepest sympathies to her loved ones. by @doxafestival

🎬 First Comes Love: Nakabingwit, a Rom-Com Documentary directed by @joellacabalu , is having its World Premiere at @viffest !

It starts like every great love story: eyes lock, sparks fly and the music swells. The future seems written in the stars. But First Comes Love: Nakabingwit lingers after the meet-cute, when conversations about race, class and difference enter the picture. For three Filipina–white couples, modern love means real romance, real love — and real-world problems. In the tender, inventive ways they learn to listen, repair and speak more honestly to one another, they find a truth that is deeply contemporary and enduringly romantic: that love can grow stronger when it meets reality.

🗓️ Saturday, October 3 • 5:45 p.m.
📍 SFU Woodwards

🗓️ Wednesday, October 7 • 1:30 p.m.
📍 International Village 10

🗓️ Saturday, October 10 • 3:45 p.m.

There’s power in coming together, and documentaries know how to capture it. Insights gathers international nonfiction where filmmakers mold and morph identity into metaphors for worlds in transition.

Young people in China, France, and Georgia come of age. From Kenya to Colombia to North America, communities resist extraction and organize for change. Across SWANA, personal archives and revolutionary images bring past struggles into the present. Together, these stories reveal love not as retreat, but as the force that creates collective change.

Nonfiction takes a wild turn in Spectrum, where strange forms open portals to new ways of seeing and believing. Desktop cinema, absurdism, satire, and daring anti-tributes turn the familiar inside out.

Mushrooms become guides. Indigenous communities fight to bring their ancestors home. Queer Mexican cowboys carve out space, Iranian siblings take an unlikely road trip, and young Nigerian filmmakers turn cinephilia into unruly invention. Rooted in the earth yet reaching across borders, these films conjure global solidarity from the unexpected.
