Keep working on your portfolios. There are grants, mentorship, and community built specifically for photographers who are still piecing it together. If you keep showing your skillset and drive in your portfolio, there are people and programs ready to meet you halfway.

@isaacwassermanphoto has been putting in some serious “wet work” lately!

From the Chicago Cubs celebrating a playoff berth to Whitney Young’s dramatic 13–12 homecoming victory over Bulls College Prep in the pouring rain, Isaac has been prepared to capture the energy, emotion, and chaos of some unforgettable moments.

@sara_digginsphoto

For a program like UT, with no NFL team in town, Saturdays carry a particular weight, bringing students, alumni and generations of fans together around a team that feels like part of their identity.

Sara’s coverage captures the full experience. From the intensity of the action to the quieter moments and personalities surrounding it, she brings the same attention to the story between plays as she does to the game itself.

These selections show her range and remind us what thoughtful sports photography can do: show you what happened and make you feel what it was like to be there.

Days two and three of the 2026 DPPF Gathering featured presentations from our mentorship cycles, panels on freelancing and building a personal photographic style and voice, an editing workshop, and several portfolio reviews. We capped things off with a keynote on covering the World Cup.

Mentorship is the backbone of the Fund: supporting emerging photographers the way Doug did, through guidance, inclusion, generosity, and, often, a shared laugh.

A great start to the 2026 DPPF Gathering.

Day one brought thoughtful conversations around covering Alpine skiing at the Winter Olympics and working as a team or league photographer, with plenty of shared experiences and perspectives from across the industry.

A few moments from the day, with much more ahead.
