From Chapel Hill to Capitol Hill, the UNC Tar Heels have a new home in the nation's capital.⭐

DPR recently completed the The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's new Washington, DC office, transforming an 8,713-sq.-ft. white-box space at 101 Constitution into a flexible workplace designed to support the university's growing presence in the city.

Working alongside Akridge Real Estate Services and OTJ Architects, the project team delivered a space that supports academic programming, internships, administration and events, creating opportunities for students, faculty, alumni and partners to connect and collaborate.

Designed by OTJ Architects, the workplace was built to maximize every square foot while providing the flexibility needed to adapt to evolving organizational needs. The completed space will serve as a hub for UNC's Washington, DC community and support its mission in the nation's capital for years to come.

Thank you to our partners and project team for helping bring this vision to life!🎉

“When I think about what has shaped me most, I think about the people who invested in me along the way. Throughout my career, I've been fortunate to learn from great mentors who challenged me to grow, taught me valuable lessons and helped me see opportunities I may not have recognized on my own.

My journey in construction started in the field at a young age. I began as an installer, worked my way into a foreman role and eventually became an assistant superintendent before moving into a regional leadership position with DPR's self-perform work team. Every step of that journey taught me something valuable, whether it was learning a new skill, taking on a challenge or learning from the people around me.

Looking back, what I'm most proud of isn't a single project or accomplishment. It's the opportunity to help others grow in their careers and see them succeed. Many of the lessons my mentors taught me continue to influence how I lead today and I believe one of the most rewarding parts of this industry is helping create opportunities for others.

My Mexican heritage has played a significant role in shaping who I am. Growing up, I witnessed the sacrifices people made to provide for our family and the pride they took in hard work. Those experiences taught me humility, respect for others and the importance of leading by example. No matter my role, I've never felt above any type of work and that's a mindset I carry with me every day.

I come from a proud and hardworking Mexican family. From relatives who worked the land to professionals, business leaders and entrepreneurs, each generation demonstrated resilience and commitment to family. My mother has been a particular source of inspiration. She worked as a school custodian and on her last day, the school closed so everyone could say goodbye and thank her for the impact she had on their lives. That speaks volumes about the kind of person she is and the values that were passed down to me..."

For owners evaluating life sciences space, the biggest risks often surface before construction starts. This project shows how early technical due diligence, transparent budgeting and integrated planning helped transform a 275,000-sq.-ft. office building into a high-performance research and lab facility while giving the client greater cost certainty, fewer surprises and faster access to critical lab space.
