A look inside a PT session with our guy King Bacot, the #1 basketball athlete in the class of 2029!
Stronger adductors help you change direction faster, protect your groin during hard cuts, and keep your hips stable when you’re defending or finishing at the rim. When the adductors and core fire together, you stay more balanced and powerful through every movement.
Today’s session focused on the foundations proven to keep hoopers healthy and explosive:
• Hip mobility to reduce joint stress and improve movement efficiency
• Adductor strength since adductor weakness is one of the top risk factors for groin strains
• Adductor + core co-contraction which studies show improves pelvic control and reduces strain during high-velocity cuts

When these systems work together, athletes move faster, absorb force better, and stay on the court longer.

Evidence-based training for evidence-based results.

Huge congrats to my guy @mischkeharris and to all of our Benedictine athletes on winning the state championship for the third time in a row! The preparation behind the scenes is what keeps these guys performing at such a high level week after week.

For our kickers and punters, staying healthy means consistently working on hip, trunk, and ankle mobility to handle the unique rotational and high-velocity demands of punting. Add in a strong and stable core plus eccentric hamstring strength and you get the recipe for power, accuracy, and durability through an entire season.

Proud of the work you put in and pumped to see you finish the year on top. Richmond’s athletes keep raising the standard and we’re here to keep them performing their best.

🚨 ACL Injury Prevention Matters 🚨

Did you know that over 70% of ACL injuries are non-contact and often occur during cutting, landing, or sudden deceleration? The good news is that research shows targeted training can reduce ACL injury risk by up to 50% when done consistently.

At Onyx Elite, we focus on integrating evidence-based prevention strategies to keep athletes healthy and performing at their best:

✅ Neuromuscular Control — Improving landing mechanics, trunk stability, and single-leg balance
✅ Deceleration & Change of Direction Training — Teaching athletes how to safely slow down and re-accelerate under control.
✅ Strength & Power Development — Prioritizing hamstring-to-quadriceps strength ratios, hip stability, and lower-body power symmetry
✅ Plyometric & Agility Progressions — Training sport-specific jump, land, and cut mechanics to mimic real-game demands.
✅ Fatigue-Resistant Performance — Incorporating drills under fatigue to simulate real sport specific scenarios

Protect your knees. Elevate your game. Stay in the season. 🏆

Peptides come up in almost every conversation about healing right now, and the discussion tends to run well ahead of the evidence.

The mechanism research is real and worth following. The human evidence is a different story: a 2025 review of the BPC-157 literature concluded there are no completed clinical studies describing efficacy in humans. Most of the published work also traces back to a single research group, which is a problem independent replication would need to solve.

Separately, and this matters most for anyone who gets tested: BPC-157 is named on the 2026 WADA Prohibited List under S0, and TB-500 under S2. Both are banned at all times, and anti-doping operates on strict liability.

The regulatory picture is actively changing, so this will likely look different in a year.

THIS IS HOW TO PROPERLY REHAB YOUR ACHILLES PAIN!

Achilles tendinopathy isn’t simply an inflammatory condition. It’s a tendon-loading problem that responds well to progressive, appropriately dosed exercise.

Here’s how we approach Achilles rehab with our athletes:

1️⃣ ISOMETRICS + HEAVY ECCENTRICS | BUILD LOAD TOLERANCE

Sustained calf raise holds and progressively loaded eccentric exercises help improve the Achilles’ ability to tolerate mechanical stress. Heavy loading can be introduced early when symptoms allow!

2️⃣ ISOTONICS + LOW-LOAD PLYOMETRICS | DEVELOP STRENGTH & ELASTIC CAPACITY

Progressive concentric/eccentric calf strengthening builds muscular capacity, while low-level pogo hops and rhythmic bouncing begin restoring the tendon’s ability to store and release elastic energy.

3️⃣ HEAVY STRENGTH + HIGH-LOAD PLYOMETRICS | RETURN TO PERFORMANCE

Heavy calf strengthening, single-leg hopping, reactive plyometrics, and sprinting progressions prepare the Achilles for the high-force demands of sport.

WHAT DOES THE RESEARCH SAY? 📚

Beyer et al. (2015) demonstrated significant improvements in pain and function with both heavy slow resistance and eccentric training.

Silbernagel et al. (2007) demonstrated that appropriately monitored running and jumping can continue during rehabilitation without compromising recovery.

THE TAKEAWAY: Achilles rehab shouldn’t stop when pain improves. The goal is to restore strength, tendon capacity, and the ability to tolerate high-level athletic demands.

Progress loading based on symptoms, function, and the tendon’s 24-hour response. These stages overlap and should be individualized.

PAIN REDUCTION IS THE START. PERFORMANCE IS THE GOAL taken in ONYX Elite by @dpt.aaron

TKE’s, but make it harder! 🦵💥

Plate Stomps combine a resisted TKE with aggressive force production into the ground.

Stomp the plate down.
Drive the knee back into terminal extension.
Then slowly control the eccentric phase back down.

The goal isn’t just to straighten the knee — it’s to create force within the quadriceps in the concentric and eccentric phase by owning the lockout, and then maintaining quad control as the resistance pulls you back out of it.

Power up. Control down. Own the range.

A simple way to bridge the gap between traditional quad strengthening and the force demands athletes actually see on the field or court. taken in ONYX Elite by @dpt.aaron

Recovery is a contested topic in sports medicine, and the evidence behind common modalities is more varied than the marketing around them suggests.

We reviewed the current literature on ice baths, sauna, compression, massage, and massage guns. Some findings are reasonably well supported, others come from small samples or study designs where blinding isn't possible, and several outcomes rely on subjective measures. Much of this work also examines short-term effects in specific populations, so how well it generalizes to any individual athlete remains an open question. None of this is settled. Recommendations here have shifted meaningfully over the past decade and will likely continue to, so we’ve cited the sources below and would encourage you to read them rather than take our summary as final.

Swipe through for where each modality currently stands.

Cramping isn’t a hydration problem!! It’s a nerve problem, and it shows up when the muscle gets more tired than it’s built to handle.

Which is why prevention isn’t in your water bottle. It’s in what you did throughout the week.

Train at the speed you actually play at, so the game isn’t the hardest thing your legs see all week. Get the muscle that cramps stronger, calves and hamstrings especially, so it takes longer to reach the point where it locks. Ramp your minutes instead of jumping them. Then handle salt and fluid on hot days.

Swipe for what to do the second it hits, and how to stop it coming back.

You’re getting weaker every week of the season and you can’t feel it yet!

Everything you built this summer starts leaking the day you stop lifting. By October your first three steps are slower, your vertical is down, and you’ll blame it on being tired.

Give me 25 minutes a week! That’s all it takes.

Hamstring rehab isn’t complete when the pain is gone. It’s complete when the athlete is ready to sprint again.” 🏈💨

Minor hamstring strains often return quickly—but that doesn’t mean rehab should be rushed. The goal isn’t just to calm symptoms; it’s to progressively restore the strength, mechanics, and sprint-specific qualities required to handle game-speed demands.

Every session starts by preparing the tissue for higher-speed loading—not just warming up.

🔥 Movement Prep
• Single-leg bridges to restore posterior chain activation.
• Anterior/posterior wobbles to challenge single-leg stability and dynamic ankle control.
• 90/90 bridges to integrate hamstring function with trunk and pelvic stability.
• Seated hamstring flexion to progressively activate the injured tissue through increasing knee flexion demands.

🏋️ Long-length strength progression
• Dual-stance RDL
• Kickstand RDL
• Reactive catch RDL

(All performed on a Wolf Wedge to increase hip flexion demand and expose the hamstrings to greater loading at longer muscle lengths.)

➡️ Single-leg capacity
Deep slider lunges with a hamstring pull-up to challenge force production, pelvic control, and end-range strength.

🏃 Return-to-sprinting progression
Before exposing the athlete to high-speed sprinting, we restored movement quality with lateral shuffles, carioca, and stop-start drills. From there, we progressed into Woodway B-skips to reintroduce terminal swing mechanics before building linear running exposure at 50–70% of max velocity as we continue to build his strength towards full effort sprints. taken in ONYX Elite by @dpt.aaron
