Found a hidden gem of a weekend ride to Anakie in west Melbourne that completely skips the highway monotony.

If you’re looking to trade city traffic for open sky, take the back way out to Werribee, cut across to Lara, and sweep past the You Yangs. Just past the park entrance, swing a right and vector northwest straight toward Anakie.

The countryside out around Anakie is stunning right now-rolling green paddocks framed by ancient volcanic hills, open tarmland, and granite outcrops sitting under massive country skies. The road itself is a sweet, flat-to-undulating run all the way up through the hills into Ballan, giving you just enough gentle sweeps to stay completely hooked without any stress.

Minimal traffic, wide-open views, and pure throttle therapy.

📍The Route Breakdown:
Leg 1: Werribee → Lara → You Yangs (Back roads)
Leg 2: Turn right past You Yangs entrance → Head NW to Anakie
Leg 3: Anakie → Ballan (Undulating open sweepers)

Nothing compares to the run up Mt Buller.

Started off with the fast, open sweepers through Mansfield before hitting the real test-16km of pure alpine switchbacks from Mirimbah up to the village.

The Busa handled the heavy elevation changes and tight hairpins like a dream. Cold mountain air, clear blue skies, and epic High Country views at 1,800m. Days like this are why we ride.
