Our son’s Yoruba naming ceremony. Everyone meet Michael Isaiah Abiola (swipe to last pic for his other names). He’s an handsome blend of both his Nigerian and Jamaican side. He’s an answered prayer, a testimony of God’s faithfulness, and proof that God is indeed able to do it again ❤️ by @dr.derin_

Last week I had the pleasure of speaking to the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center Board of Trustees about the exceptional anesthetic and peri-operative care our team delivers. Grateful for the privilege to do what I love 👩🏾‍⚕️
Ps. Yes I’m very expressive; I’m Nigerian 😂 by @dr.derin_

It takes teamwork to juggle surgeries, anesthesia, and toddler tantrums 😅. Here are 3 things that keep us grounded and thriving as two married physicians in surgery-based specialties.

1️⃣ A daycare that opens as early as 6:30AM.
When we both have early morning surgeries, I can drop off and still make it to work on time.

2️⃣ A meal prep service for lunch.
We use @fitprepmeals_ a local meal service here in Maryland. It saves us so much time and takes the guesswork out of lunch decisions.

3️⃣ A shared calendar.
We started this system back in med school when we were long distance. Continued through residency, and now as attendings, it still just works 💯 We bought our @myskylight display calendar a year ago and love it!

Ultimately, giving each other grace is just as important as any system we use.

Working parents, what helps your family thrive? 💕

✨ Wisdom ✨ Sharing some lessons from Daniel (part 1 aka lessons 1-5)

1. Having a good foundation matters. They were already doing the work BEFORE they were chosen (Daniel 1:4).

2. You HAVE to be okay being set apart/ different. Do not succumb to peer pressure (Daniel 1:8)

3. You need to have the boldness to ASK for what you want (Daniel 1:8)

4. God can give you FAVOR with people (Daniel 1:9)

5. Have FULL confidence in God and His ability to intervene (Daniel 1:12-13)

I’ve got lesson 6-10 in a different video bc this got long 😅 #Wisdom #Daniel by @dr.derin_

You don’t have to see the how, but believe this: it IS an easy thing, a simple thing for the Lord to do (2 King 3:17-18). Amen to that #Faith #Encouragement by @dr.derin_
