EXOS 2026 IS LIVE!

The @firstprinciplesofmovement faculty are back at EXOS in HQ in Phoenix, AZ Nov 13-15!

Physical activity is one of the most powerful tools we have to improve overall health.

If you’re a rehab provider, coach, trainer, or anyone else working in health and performance, helping people become and remain physically active should be a much bigger part of how we define our jobs.

Not just getting someone out of pain or helping someone hit a PR, but building the strength, capacity, confidence, and skills that allow someone to participate in physical activity for the rest of their life for the long game.

November 13-15, the First Principles of Movement faculty is taking over EXOS HQ in Phoenix to talk about what this looks like in practice - and how to actually make it work within the realities of your setting:

🌵Insurance-based or cash-based
🌵Gym or clinic
🌵Boutique or large-scale facility
🌵Athletes, older adults, people in pain, or the general population

Our settings and populations may differ, but the opportunity to impact someone’s long-term health doesn’t.

A major premise of this weekend is if we lean in heavily on our ability to help people in their own long game, create communities that help people feel safe and heard, and provide value that people didn’t even know they could get from movement professions - a sustainable business model follows.

And we’ll train together, hike together, workshop ideas, break into groups, and have deep conversations along the way.

Recovery session.

It’s a nice way to drive some fitness while letting the areas that have worked hard chill out.

My bias is leaning away from saying “active recovery is a must” but when I do it that’s how I use it.

Fill buckets that haven’t been filled for the week and make sure I drive some fitness. taken in Kinetic Impact Rehab and Performance by @dr.donaldmull

Is there ANY reason why you’d want to miss this? Of course not.

Join us next month in the desert.

Early Bird Deadline is 10/9.

We’re challenging the status quo.

Always have SINCE we live in an upside down world.

It’s about community.

The community with our clients to help them sustain proactive investments in their future so the decades they spend being functional & doing “what matters to them” last longer.

& the community of our peers so we can tune out the noise - the nonsense online, financial issues, people’s expectations for short term “fixes” & what they expect, etc.

Join our community of compassionate colleagues who will be sharing how they are delivering value everyday & feeling the overflowing gratitude to have the opportunity to do this in our crazy world.

@ktdabrowski @backintothesaddle @dr.donaldmull @coach_q_physio @dr.ryanchow

Surround yourself with great people and take action.

When I started @kineticimpact I felt kind of cornered to fit in the box of normal standards of care. It wasn’t until reconnecting with @craigliebenson during the pandemic did I feel a weight lifted off my chest.

We would talk a lot about how there has been evidence for decades yet so little rehab specialist actually push people enough for physiologic adaptation and how little trainers, coaches or clinicians understood how to truly contextualize a plan for someone.

@dr.ryanchow pushed me to think about how none of it matters unless you can actually do it with someone.

@ktdabrowski always pushes me to simplify everything by finding common themes and that you can do it while having fun and being yourself.

I can go on for days about this crew and how much they mean to me but the reality is, @kineticimpact wouldn’t be where it is without @firstprinciplesofmovement principles driving our vision.

We have a purpose and we have a mission DESPITE what the standard is.

In November we are meeting up for our annual meeting up where we all share the floor together and teach our principle from our perspective and how it has impacted us. It’s more than a weekend course. This is an opportunity to leverage the experiences of every single people that walk through those doors to impact the thousands of people we will encounter.

I hope to see you all there because words cannot express how much this means to me. 🫡 by @dr.donaldmull

It’s not perfect…
There are so many ideals we try to uphold given today’s landscape that makes us think we have to follow a perfect program. You don’t. You need to be flexible enough to hit the absolute most important basics - a lot.

It doesn’t always feel good…
The best athletes most of us envy don’t always feel good. I post a lot of stuff about being a washed up athlete still being ABLE to do athletic things. That doesn’t mean I always wake up every morning and feel great. I push myself hard on the days I’m training hard. Sometimes I feel like garbage…

It’s not ALWAYS hard…
That also doesn’t mean every workout is balls to the wall. We only have so many resources we can pull from. When we can we pull back the intensity to reload the battery to get MORE out of future sessions.

It’s not a sprint…
Getting better at anything takes a LONG time. Sprinting is a skills, changing direction is a skill, getting stronger is a skill. You mix adaptation, injuries, stress, life stuff into the equation - you need to buckle up for the long haul.

There are no guarantees…
Despite what everyone is going to sell you, nothing in this life is guaranteed. You can do everything “perfect” then experience an injury that sets you back a year. You can do every single workout on the program and feel the same after 8 weeks. You can experience tragedy in your life that derails you for months. I have experienced a lot of these things, but I keep going. I do my best to control what I can to stack the odds knowing I can control everything.

The reality is most of you are sold on quick fixes and guarantees. Neither exist. We control what we can and put in the work then enjoy the ride. It’s the only way you have a chance. taken in Kinetic Impact Rehab and Performance by @dr.donaldmull

We're back!

The podcast took a little hiatus during the summer but it's back. I had to get an elite guest, and @dr.donaldmull crushed it! I really admire Donald's outlook on rehab and performance. Just from talking to him you can tell he's extremely knowledgeable and great at what he does.

The podcast is available everywhere you listen to podcasts as well as YouTube (links in bio). by @dr.donaldmull

Jogging is not a progression to sprinting and cutting.

Jumping is.

Mach drills are.

Jogging is a different task. Most do it too soon and the volume of ground contact time is WAY too high.

No field/court athlete ever gets recruited to be the best jogger.

Build speed and power first THEN add volume and fitness.

Feel free to steal…

Sometimes used all in one session. Sometimes progresses session by session.

Depends on where you’re at.

Resisted slows you down. Less distance slows you down. Overspeed speeds you up. More distance speeds you up.

I like using lateral steps and shuffles at the early stages of change of direction because you don’t have to change orientation of the body much and you can focus on shapes and angles without a lot of complexity.
