POSTS STORIES REELS

📚 October Reads 📚
My best month so far with 12 books read, including a few nonfiction as I start to prepare for #nonfictionnovember
I’m also still really enjoying the #dungeoncrawlercarl series, I have the next book on order at the library!
Rivers of London was a new discovery for me. But I love the way Ben Aaronovitch blends the magic and the mundane, in a similar way to Joanne Harris in The Moonlight Market. by @dr.elizabeth.writes

Twelfth Night at @sheffieldtheatres and the strangest content warning I’ve ever seen (and after all that fuss Mathew Horne only had one bite of the banana, so really the warning should have been for banana wastage instead). This is one of my favourite Shakespeare plays. It was the first of his plays that I ever saw live, and this was the fifth time I’ve seen it on stage. Every production brings something different, so I will keep going to see it!

As You Like It was an evening of pure escapism! Jonathan Groff was a perfect Rosalind. The forest of Arden was brought to life on stage.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
It didn’t help me in my quest to see all 37 of Shakespeare’s plays before I’m 37 as I saw As You Like It for the first time way back in 2013, but this was too good to miss! by @dr.elizabeth.writes

10 books in September, 9/10 borrowed from the Library! And now that I’ve read Project Hail Mary I can finally watch the film. by @dr.elizabeth.writes

I’m joining @literacy_trust @britishcouncil and @go_all_in_2026 in a new world record attempt for the most people reading online in 12 hours. The event on Thursday 8th October is part of the #take10toread campaign in the #nationalyearofreading2026 will you join me? (Sign-up link in bio) 📚 by @dr.elizabeth.writes

Although I have seen King Lear before this was my first time seeing it live, and Ian McDiarmid (aka Chancellor Palpatine!) was an incredible Lear. It’s on in the Sheffield Crucible until the 19th so catch it while you can!

🎧Are Audiobooks Cheating? 🎧
6/8 books I “read” in August were audiobooks (huge shoutout to @borrowbox if you’re not signed up why not?) I’ve had such a busy month but while I’ve needed my hands, I haven’t needed my ears, so I’ve engaged with these stories in audio format. What do you think? Does it count as reading?

Working full time, volunteering almost as much, and still trying to find time to turn my PhD novel into something commercially publishable (oh, and write the sequel too) 😅📖✒️
At least Chewie is keeping me company in the background 🐶

Spent most of August as a Camp Director for @cisvgreatbritain @cisvofficial in Sheffield. 32 children from 7 different countries growing and learning together to build a more peaceful future. We had day trips to York and Sheffield City Centre, ice cream at Forge Dam, Eclipse watching, memory making. And I got to do it all with my bestie Nicole as one of my staff! And now back to the regularly scheduled book/writing posts by @dr.elizabeth.writes

Here’s my books for July, 4/5 were library books. I loved Horrible Histories as a child so I was so excited to see Terry Deary had written ‘Actually, I’m a Murderer’, and it is now one of my all-time favourite books. I also read my first non-fiction book of the year: ‘Unruly’, David Mitchell’s slightly irreverent take on the early monarchs from before William the Conqueror to Elizabeth I. It was hilarious (and, side note: I have a signed copy) by @dr.elizabeth.writes

Shamelessly stole this idea from @phdwithmelissa but I’ve packed so much in to the 4 months since I defended my thesis that even narrowing it down to the highlights for this post was a challenge!
