Age is Just a Number: A 16-Year-Old Dog’s Dental Cleaning Journey with Dr. Haney

Hey pet parents, I want to share a special story that reminds us why age is truly just a number when it comes to caring for our furry friends.

Recently, we had the privilege of helping, a 16-year-old dog who needed dental cleaning. Her loving owner was understandably nervous about putting such a senior companion under anesthesia. It can be scary to think about, but with careful health screening, the right staff and a tailored anesthesia plan, we made sure she was in the safest hands possible.

Why go through this for a senior dog? Dental disease isn’t just about bad breath, it causes pain, infections, and can even affect vital organs like the heart and kidneys. For Her, cleaning her teeth meant removing several abscessed teeth causing him discomfort and trouble eating.

After the procedure, she bounced back with renewed energy. She was eating well, playing, and acting years younger, proof that with expert care, anesthesia for dental cleaning can greatly improve quality of life, no matter your pet’s age.

If your pet is aging and dental health is a concern, don’t hesitate to reach out. Together, we can evaluate their health and decide the best course of action to keep them happy and comfortable.

Because every year they share with us is precious and a healthy smile makes all the difference.

👉What signs of dental discomfort have you noticed in your furry companion?

🤗Share your senior pet stories with us, we’re here to listen.

Little dogs have BIG personalities… but their tiny bones needs extra care. 🐾💛

Here’s an ER case:

Enzo, our brave little warrior, who took a tumble from his loving mum’s arms and ended up in the ER with a broken leg.
It happens faster than you think. These tiny wiggle-butts are experts at slipping through even the most careful hands.

But with the help of our surgical team (and Enzo’s determination), we set things right. His limb’s back in action, and so is his zoomie spirit! ✨

Let’s show some love for our small but mighty pups and remember, a secure hold can save a lot of heartbreak.

Rattlesnake season is here, Orange County 🐍

As a vet who hikes these trails with Harold, I need you to know this:
Rattlesnakes are active RIGHT NOW.
Warm weather and longer days bring them out. And if you hike anywhere in Laguna Niguel, Dana Point, or surrounding areas , you're in their habitat.

Most bites happen on the nose or front feet.
Dogs sniff in bushes. They step near rocks. They don't see the snake until it strikes.

Baby rattlesnakes are the MOST dangerous.
They release more venom than adults. And that venom starts breaking down cells immediately.
This is a time-sensitive emergency.

If your dog is bitten, get to a vet immediately.

Don't wait. Don't "see how they do." Every minute matters.

Prevention tips:
✓ Keep dogs on leash on trails
✓ Avoid tall grass and rocky areas
✓ Don't let them sniff in bushes
✓ Consider rattlesnake avoidance training
✓ Know where your nearest emergency vet is
I hike with Harold. I know these trails. And I'm vigilant. You should be too.

Stay safe out there 💚🐾

I spend all day telling pet parents to keep their pets hydrated. Meanwhile, I'm surviving on coffee and sheer willpower.

So this is my reminder to you (and to me):

Your body needs water. Your brain needs water. Your skin needs water. Your pet needs water.

Let's all do better this week. Even if it's just one extra glass a day.

Harold stays hydrated. We can too.

Who else forgets to drink water until they have a headache? 🙋‍♀️
