🖤Representation Matters🤎
As soon as I walked in to see my 4year old patient her mom said look it’s Doc McStuffins- I was excited 😊. At the end of our visit her mother told me how happy she was that her daughter had a doctor who looked like her because now her daughter could see who she can become. It’s not the first time a parent has told me how happy they are that their child has a doctor who looks like them but then she proceeded to tell me that her daughter doesn’t like her hair in braids and how she wants her to embrace her hair - so I told my little patient that I loved her braids and pointed at my own braids. Then my 4yr old patient said “Mommy I want to be a doctor like Doctor Wulu”. Her mother asked to take a photo of us together and I gave my young patient/future surgeon a stethoscope and the otoscope as we posed for the photo with her looking in my ear with pure excitement. This moment meant everything to this mother but also meant so much to me!
