Allow me to reintroduce myself: I am officially Dr. LaKendria Kache’t Brown 🥂

On April 26, 2024, I successfully defended my Doctoral Dissertation entitled: “The Molecular Mechanism and Targeting of SNF2L, SKP2, and KDM5B on Oncogenic Pathways in Prostate Cancer Malignancy”

I’m overflowing with gratitude and joy as I reflect on my doctoral journey. To my friends and family, your unwavering encouragement has meant the world to me. Thank you for being my rock through every twist and turn. To God be the Glory! I am so grateful for him! I can’t say thank you enough to my Lord and Savior! 🙌🏽

A special heartfelt thank you to the Bill and Melinda Gates Millennium Foundation for funding all three of my degrees, my B.S, M.S, and Ph.D. It feels sooooo good knowing I don’t have any student loans! I did that with 12 scholarships, 2 fellowships, 5 authorships published, 3 authorship publications pending, over 19 awards and honors, and a 4.0 GPA.

This achievement is a testament to our collective effort, and I’m thrilled to share this milestone with each of you. Here’s to obtaining the highest doctoral degree of expertise and dedication!

Still soaking this moment in…✨

I am incredibly honored and grateful to accept the 2026 Meharry Medical College 10 Under 10 Young Alumni Award. To be recognized among such inspiring leaders and changemakers is truly humbling. This award celebrates alumni who embody leadership, service, and innovation to all mankind, and to know my journey has been seen in this way means more than words can express.

Just two years after earning my Ph.D. from Meharry, standing here as one of the youngest recipients is a reminder that purpose, faith, and perseverance can take you places beyond what you imagined.Today, I have the privilege of continuing my journey as a postdoctoral fellow at Morehouse School of Medicine, where I am committed to advancing cancer research and addressing health disparities that disproportionately affect our communities. I am especially proud of helping launch the PCP3 Clinical Study at Grady Memorial Hospital, working to bridge research, early detection, and community impact in prostate cancer prevention and care. Seeing our work move beyond the laboratory and directly impact lives continues to fuel my purpose every day.

Most importantly, I give all glory and thanks to God. Thank you for ordering my steps and carrying me through every season. To my family and close friends, thank you for standing beside me, believing in me, celebrating me, and accepting this moment with me. Your love and support have meant everything.

A special thank you to my PI, Dr. Rick Kittles, for your mentorship, leadership, and for continuously pushing me to grow as a scientist and researcher.

Thank you to all of my mentors, colleagues, collaborators, and research teams for your support, encouragement, and for allowing me to be part of work that creates meaningful impact. Success is never achieved alone, and I am grateful for every person who has poured into my journey.

I am honored to represent the work we are doing at @morehouseschoolofmedicine and look forward to continuing to serve through research, community and clinical impact, and purpose.

The marathon continues. 🤍 #MeharryMade #10Under10 #awardrecipient #WomenInSTEM #BlackInSTEM #OncologyResearch taken in Nashville, Tennessee by @dr.kenbrown

A woman of faith, resilience, integrity, intelligence, and vision.

Here’s to walking boldly into new opportunities, deeper love, better health, stronger boundaries, meaningful impact, and everything God has for me! 🎂💕 #33 #Kday #TaurusSeason taken in Around the Sun by @dr.kenbrown

I’m humbled and deeply grateful to share that I received the HBCU-PCF Recognition Award for Postdoctoral Fellows at the 32nd Annual Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) Scientific Retreat in Carlsbad, California.

My research study, “Vitamin D increases sensitivity to radiotherapy in advanced metastatic African American prostate cancer cell lines,” reflects years of dedication to bridging biology, disparities, and translational hope to underserved communities. To see it acknowledged on this stage among so many trailblazers in this field means the world to me.

What makes this moment even more special, based on the high interest my poster received at this year’s retreat, and the enthusiasm expressed by PCF Board Members, I’ve been invited as a speaker to discuss and present my study.

Thank you to everyone who made this possible: my mentors who believed (Dr. Rick Kittles, Dr. LeAnne Burnham, Dr. Jabril Johnson), my collaborators, my institution, and the communities at the heart of this work. Thank you, PCF, for your unwavering commitment to advancing prostate cancer research and health equity. More than funding science, you’re amplifying voices and changing futures.

This award isn’t just mine, it belongs to the resilient African American men who face prostate cancer at disproportionately high rates, to the HBCUs cultivating the next generation of scientists, and to those of us determined to shift the narrative from disparity to discovery.

To my fellow early career scientists: keep pushing, keep asking questions, keep building. The road isn’t always easy, but when your purpose meets your platform, unlimited possibilities unfold.

95 years of grace, love, wisdom, and unwavering strength. You were the heart of our family, a true Matriarch, The Matriarch. I am so grateful God allowed me to be yours.

You lived a full life, rooted in faith, resilience, and legacy and your legacy continues! You raised 9 children, helped shape the lives of 20 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren. Your love runs through generations, and it’s such a blessing to be part of your lineage.

You were such a fighter and I know exactly who I get it from lol. I’ll never forget how you faced breast cancer with unshakable faith, unwavering strength, and undeniable courage. It tried to take you out, but it couldn’t. You beat it. A true Survivor, indeed! You kept living, loving, and showing up, never letting the pain define you and I absolutely loved that about you, Grandma! Know that your strength lives on through me.

Your presence was a gift! I’m grateful that I always stopped by to kick it with you whenever I was in town. The smile on your face when I graduated from Meharry Medical College and came by to show you, will forever be one of our greatest memories!!! I couldn’t wait to get home to show you! You were soooooo proud of me. I’m forever cherishing our memories🥹

Girrrrrrl let’s talk about how you were jazzy ’til the very end. Even in the hospital bed, you wanted me to make sure you looked good with that blanket wrapped around you 😂. Talking about, “how I look baby, you think it look good on me like that” lol I was like (girrrrrrrl please in my head) little did I know, you were making sure you looked presentable to be with Our Heavenly Father! 🥹

Your absence is deeply felt. Though my heart is heavy, I find comfort and peace knowing you’re resting now. You are finally reunited with our Heavenly Father and our loved ones, watching over us. It’s a blessing to have gained you as my guardian angel! I will forever miss and love you. I love you so very much Grandma! Rest on my girl, until we meet again 💕💐🥀 by @dr.kenbrown

Grateful. Grounded. Growing.

Another year around the sun, and this one… it stretched me thin. I’m beyond thankful for the lessons, the growth, and the blessings that came with it. Ngl, the isolation was tough mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. But in that stillness, I learned more about myself than I ever expected to. I was forced to sit with my thoughts, confront some truths, and grow through what I was going through.

This year, I walked through new doors, embraced new opportunities, and kept showing up even when it wasn’t easy. I’ve smiled through blessings and cried through breakthroughs. And above all, I’ve trusted God through every single step. I’m learning daily to surrender my plans for His purpose, to be led by faith, not fear.

So here’s to another year of alignment, peace, elevation, and grace. May I continue to move with purpose, love with intention, and allow God to order every step I take. Happy Kday to me.😌

This week, I had the privilege of sharing groundbreaking research I’ve discovered at the largest International conference for cancer research at The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Annual 2024 Meeting in San Diego, CA.

“The AACR Annual Meeting is the focal point of the cancer research community, where scientists, clinicians, other health care professionals, survivors, patients, and advocates gather to share the latest advances in cancer science and medicine. From population science and prevention; to cancer biology, translational, and clinical studies; to survivorship and advocacy; the AACR Annual Meeting highlights the work of the best minds in cancer research from institutions all over the world.” -AACR

One of my greatest highlights at this conference was to be honored with the prestigious Minority Scholar in Cancer Research Award for 2024, sponsored by #ACCR #MICR #MERCK #NCI. I’m incredibly thankful for this recognition!

Another highlight was forging life-changing connections with extraordinary scientists, clinicians, surgeons, and medical professionals from around the world. Thank you @aacr_foundation @merck @nationalcancerinstitute taken in San Diego, California by @dr.kenbrown
