Hi! I’m the author of Elatsoe & other books. Newbery honor, Nebula, Locus, Ignyte, & Lodestar winner. National book award longlist. She/Her. Lipan.

POSTS STORIES REELS

CHILDREN OF OWL HAS A COVER!!!! With art by @abigailrajunov, who also illustrated 25 pages of comics in the book. It was an honor to work with her; I couldn’t be happier!! 🥹💕

Maisie: hasn’t gotten her life back on track since her best friend died and she saw Owl, harbinger of ill tidings and doom.
Joel: Streaming prodigy with questionable decision-making who’s been exiled to a summer of kitten fostering.
Verona: will do anything to leave their trailer park behind, even watch a house she knows is haunted.
Owl: son of Big Owl, who can’t help who he is, or how much he cares about these aforementioned humans.

Their four stories intertwine with a ghost bent on justice, an adorable feline Animal Person, and a vengeful monster headed straight for them. by @dr.littlebadger

My article with The Texas Observer is now online! The title means “return to the land of many houses,” which is our (Lipan Apache) word for home. In this article, I write about the rematriation of an elder who lived in KÍŁÁÁHÍÍ about 750 years ago - her remains were unearthed & studied & then held in storage for a long while. My mother’s mitochondrial DNA showed that the elder is a maternal relative, so she was returned to the land in our traditional burial ground just a few miles away from her original resting spot. Xoxi Nayapiltzin and Pilar Pedersen were critical in the elder’s return, and I am extremely grateful to them, and I am grateful to every person who participated in her reburial ceremony. The article is now online - I’m very nervous because it’s so personal to myself and others, but I wanted to share this good work in the hope that it will help other Native rematriation efforts, both for the Lipan and others. Note this part of the essay: both “the Little Breech Clout Band and the Tall Grass Band of Lipan were historically present in and around Presidio. Our culture, stories, documentation, and sacred history affirm this.” Mitochondrial DNA was just part of the link to the Elder - my family is of the little Breechcloth band, so it’s natural that we are related to somebody of the area. by @dr.littlebadger

Last month, we celebrated our marriage with friends & family. It was the most beautiful day of my life. My love, my adventurer, I know that every moment will be precious with you at my side. There are 100s of photos by Frank Salas, and I’d like to share highlights over the next few weeks. by @dr.littlebadger
