We all need a space where we are welcomed, cared about and safe to be ourselves, our own Pink Pony Club. This space could be a club, a teacher’s classroom, our family, but in the end, needs to include our body in order to heal. #queer #lgbt #lgbtq #lgbtq🌈 #lgbtqia #lgbtqia🌈 #genderdiversity #healing #mindbodyconnection #pinkponyclub #chappellroan @chappellroan by @dr.marksalvatore

Honored to announce our Soundcheck Sponsor, @bravo_edex which is led by two incredible individuals, @dan.brownridge and my big brother and hero, @johnsalvatore6.

My sister, brother, and I have each built our careers around working with children and young people, something our mother and father were incredibly proud of. My brother is an extraordinary leader, role model, and positive influence on every young person who has had the privilege of knowing him.

Here at “UnMuted” we are grateful to Bravo Educational Experience for their very generous support of our mission to help young people struggling with chronic illness feel seen, heard and understood. by @dr.marksalvatore

To start healing, young people need to be seen, heard & understood. They need time to tell their story.

At the Pediatric Mind-Body Medicine Program, new patient appointments are 2 hours with the gastroenterologist & psychologist. Follow up appointments are 1 hour. That’s how the UnMuting begins.

All made possible by your philanthropy.

Tickets, Donations & Sponsorships for UnMuted in bio.

We all deserve a comeback story.

Although a physician, I'm also a patient on my own healing journey. At times, I've been helpless and hopeless, but as dr.Mark, I hope to challenge shame, silence & stigma around mental health, invisible illness & identity with openness, honesty & acceptance.

At UnMuted, we're raising critical funds to help young people struggling with chronic illness & train the next generation of pediatric providers in mind-body medicine.

I've had my comeback story. Help others have theirs.

Words cannot express my gratitude to the Edwards family, Una and Amit Basak and the Friedman family for their invaluable financial support of this year’s inaugural UnMuted. Without them, this concert @thesinclair would not be possible.

I first met Ben Edwards at 6 years of age when I skied on his shoulders, Amit Basak at 17 when he defeated me on the wrestling mat in the state quarterfinals and the Friedmans when Erica heard my talk at the Herbert Benson Mind Body Medicine conference.

If I’m honest and a little bit lucky, I think I could take Amit now (I still have my wrestling singlet).

Deeply honored to announce our title sponsor, the @oconnorandhighland real estate team, which is led by two amazing individuals, @jasondhighland and @johnmarkhamoconnor.

Jason has been my real estate agent for the past 15 years, which means he has also been my financial advisor, consigliere, therapist, and even priest during some of the most stressful times of my life. Both he and John are men of deep integrity, who are selfless in their devotion to causes about which they care.

Here at “UnMuted” we are indebted to the team at O’Connor & Highland for their very generous support of our mission to help young people struggling with chronic illness feel seen, heard and understood.

If you’re struggling with chronic GI symptoms, I hope this 15-part series was informative, useful and even inspiring.

I had to end this version of the mind-body drop series again with the best & baddest drop in all of music. May it encourage you to keep fighting because better mind-body health is possible.

For much more information on DGBIs, check out the @romefoundation.

Large studies show that 40% of us will struggle with a chronic GI illness known as a Disorder of Gut-Brain Interaction (DGBI) at some point in our lives.

DGBIs are not only very common, but also frequently misunderstood, even by healthcare providers. Getting a diagnosis is just the beginning because when given the correct treatment plan, DGBIs can get better.

The stress response of “fight or flight” is automatic & triggered by the sympathetic nervous system. When chronic, the stress response can become our default mode.

The relaxation response of “rest and digest” or “tend and befriend” is voluntary & elicited by deep breathing, a hug, exercise, positive visualization (to name a few) through the parasympathetic nervous system.

The more frequently we elicit the relaxation response, the more it becomes our default mode.

Whenever we’re in danger, fear triggers the stress response.

The sympathetic nervous system directs blood towards the heart, lungs & muscles to “fight or fight” the threat & away from the digestive tract, resulting in either diarrhea or constipation; hence the phrase, “scared sh*tless.”

Whether the threat is right in front of us or worried about, the effect on the body is the same.
