Hi! Welcome to my little corner in this chaos. I am so glad you found me and want to share some of your time with me.

A little about me: I am a wife of almost 25 years, mom of one in heaven and 4 here on earth: 13,16,19& 21 yo. Aside from my family of course, I love Jesus, coffee, books, and traveling. A total nerd, I am also a bit of an introvert, but I am a good listener and give good hugs.

I have a doctorate in Educational Psychology and I have focused my studies on human development. My passion is helping others understand our natural development and the beauty and dignity of the human person. I do this through my podcast Parenting Smarts, my book Daughter by Design, and my various talks or essays. I self identify as a stay-at-home mom but there is very little staying at home these days now that the kids are older. My gift for gab and love of travel often have me packing a bag for a trip to speak at a retreat or women’s conference!

In today's Psalm, we proclaim that God will remember His covenant forever, and we give thanks (see Psalm 111:5). We marvel at the works of the Lord. Ankle-deep in the water of real life, it can be easy to forget about God's promises and to give thanks in all circumstances. Because God is a truly good and loving Father, He will provide for us. In the drought or in the downpour, He will provide all that we need.⁠

Growing up, I was told the empty cross celebrates Christ’s Resurrection and victory over death, as though we could fast-forward through the painful parts. This cross, adorned with the tools of the Passion, together with the image of Mary holding Jesus’ body, highlight both His sacrifice and His love.⁠

On today’s Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, which type of cross do we exalt? Do we rush past the difficult parts to focus only on the victory?⁠

As Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, so the Son of Man was lifted up for us. Let us gaze upon Christ Crucified, allowing His sacrifice and love to draw us closer to eternal life.⁠

Summer 2026 flew by.
DC- Utah-CA- AL-MN more CA and lots of Az. Throw in some 🇫🇷 for Ella and 🇮🇹 & 🇨🇭 for Evan and Nicole, ODP for Jules ⚽️ and a quick anniversary trip for Bob and I❤️
Last soccer match for Joshua, parish send off for his seminary. Three conference for me with 14 talks (!). Our household grew and Nicole started PT grad school. So much change around here but all good stuff! by @dr.maryruthhackett

When trying to establish a habit, finding a buddy helps with accountability. Setting the same time for your new habit is so helpful, as is habit stacking or adding it to something that is already in your routine. The change of seasons is a great time to start a new healthy habit.

With the first week of HS under her belt, @juliettehackett2030 has now firmly set morning training as part of her day. The benefits physically, emotionally, and mentally are so clear. Plus it is a little extra time with her favorite family member 🦮 by @dr.maryruthhackett
