Yesterday, I had the honour of chairing the International Forum for Peace & Diplomacy (IFPD) Council of Emissaries Assembly at the National Assembly, Abuja, Nigeria. I reaffirmed the conviction that Africa’s potential is boundless when its youth are actively engaged. The mission of IFPD remains clear and resolute: to advance peace across the continent while strengthening trade and investment as catalysts for inclusive social and economic development for all Africans.

Africa is Awoken!!!

For eight decades, the United Nations has led global cooperation for peace, development, and human rights. Yet despite its progress, one critical gap remains: Africa — home to over 1.4 billion people and 54 nations — has no permanent seat on the UN Security Council.

For more than thirty years, African leaders and the African Union have demanded fair representation. Their call is rooted not in sentiment, but in justice and necessity.

Africa hosts the majority of UN peacekeeping missions, conflict resolutions, and humanitarian interventions — yet remains excluded from permanent decision-making power.

The question persists: why is Africa still absent from the Council’s permanent seats? Are internal challenges or structural limitations within the African Union & Heads of States holding the continent back?

IFPD DG CALLS FOR ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT OF IDPs ACROSS AFRICA

IFPD Director General, Amb. Adeniran Michael Timothy, calls for a coordinated approach to improving the lives of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) across Africa, emphasizing that IDPs must move from displacement to becoming active economic actors through skills acquisition, entrepreneurship, and sustainable livelihoods.

He highlights the importance of positive public-private partnerships (PPPs) in creating economic opportunities for IDPs and urges the @africanunion_official African Union (AU) to champion this initiative across Africa, restoring dignity and promoting inclusive economic growth.

I am most delighted to formally declare open the 2026 Diplomatic Golf for Peace & Development.

Beyond the game of golf, this tournament is a platform to promote diplomatic friendship, partnership and international cooperation, while, most importantly, supporting Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Nigeria. by @dr.timmyisme
