I get to be a physician today because of the sacrifices and tenacity of my ancestors, and the support of my mother, grandmother, mentors, teachers, and friends. I hope I’ve made them proud. Vindicated in the face of every obstacle, strife, and challenge overcome. I am honored to be a graduate of the same medical school as the first physician in my family; to walk in his footsteps and become the first woman physician in our family, and the first physician period for other branches of my lineage. It took a village to get me here, but my individual success means nothing if it doesn’t benefit my community as a whole.

Only 5.3% of all US physicians, and 3.7% of US neurologists, are Black. To be a physician, a Black physician, is a privilege. The responsibility of those with privilege is to share it. As such, it is my greatest pleasure to forge an easier path for those who come after me, to help increase diversity in medicine, and to create safe spaces for my patients, for us.

The plight of our ancestors matters. Representation matters. Equitable care matters. Our dreams matter. WE matter.

The real work begins now.

Officially introducing Dr. Nzia Imani Hall, MD, MS

I’ve been working towards this for so long it feels surreal to have finally achieved it. I am who I said I’d be. Wow.

Medical school gave me my lowest lows and highest highs. It was THE most emotionally difficult thing I’ve EVER done, but pressure truly does create diamonds. I am so grateful for the woman & physician I’ve become.

I put my literal sweat and TEARS into this. I am GRATEFUL. I am speechless.

I MATCHEDDDDD !!!🥂🥳

What a journey it was to get here!

I feel so blessed, lucky, and grateful that I get to be a Neurologist and train at my dream program !

Thank you Mommy for ALWAYS believing in me, supporting me, cheering me on, & holding me up every time I was rolling around on the floor crying. You are my anchor. I made it here because you were always there. I can’t say thank you enough.🫂💜

I’m so thankful for my mentors who poured so much into me. They didn’t just open doors for me, they created doors & carried me through the threshold!

The outpouring of love & support from my friends, family, and everyone made yesterday all the more special. Thank you all❤️

4 weeks in Zambia 🇿🇲

Wow. I don’t think I can accurately articulate the magnitude of the impact these past 29 days have had on me.

This rotation was nothing like I expected it to be, but was everything I needed it to be. Professionally and personally I was challenged, I grew, and made incredible memories along the way.

The people I met here, from my patients, to my drivers, the neuro team, & the locals, all touched my heart and taught me so much. Zambians are some of the kindest and welcoming people I’ve ever met.

I feel so lucky to have had this opportunity. I’ll cherish the people I met & the experiences I had forever.❤️

Now that my last rotation of medical school has ended, I can honestly say this was the most perfect and meaningful way to end my last year.

Week 3 in Zambia🇿🇲

Time is FLYING by. I can’t believe that I go home next week. It’s bittersweet. I miss home, but the experiences I’m having and the bonds I’m making & strengthening have been incredible!

My heart is filled with gratitude❤️

Week 2 in Zambia🇿🇲

Great food, amazing people, & still learning so much!

Chaminuka Nature Reserve was the highlight of my week! The animals were sooo cute 🥰🐆🐘

And the cherry on top? On the way home from Chaminuka we saw an entire lunar eclipse from start to finish🤩

Week 1 in Zambia🇿🇲

I always wanted the first country I visited to be in Africa, instead it was my 5th, but I’m so grateful and blessed to finally be here in the motherland.

In just one week I’ve grown so much. My worldviews have broadened, my schemas have been challenged, and my mission has been strengthened.

Working in a new healthcare system I’ve been pushed outside my comfort zone, but it’s making me a better doctor (to be) and more confident in my abilities.

And as if that wasn’t already great enough, I also got to experience one of the 7 natural world wonders and learn about Zambian history with my best friend and my new friend💛🫂This week has been absolutely amazinggggg!🤸🏽‍♀️

There’s so much I’m grateful for. Every day has been an adventure (iykyk😅). I can’t wait to see what the next 3 weeks have in store! 🤸🏽‍♀️ taken in Zambia, Africa by @dr.zhall
