4 years of literal blood, sweat and many tears; i can finally call myself Dr. Abby.
and to be honest, i never thought i’d make it. many many years ago (2017), my pre med advisor told me i’ll never make it since i was an art major. it was never to make a point but rather a goal and i’m so happy to have accomplished that goal.
thank you to my friends, family and attendings for helping me get here. i am forever grateful 🤍

A day well spent with an ocularist 🎨👁️ and a couple photos from my current rotation at the cincinnati VA

An ocularist is a highly skilled specialist who designs, creates, and fits custom prosthetic eyes for individuals who have lost an eye due to injury, illness, or congenital conditions. Their work blends medical expertise, fine artistry, and precision, from hand-painting each prosthesis to perfectly match the patient’s natural eye to ensuring a comfortable, functional fit.
Ocularists also work closely with optometrists and ophthalmologists, collaborating on eye health, socket care, and overall vision needs to provide the best possible outcome for each patient. It’s more than restoring appearance, they help patients regain confidence, comfort, and quality of life—one carefully crafted eye at a time 👁️

been a minute!
rotating through private practice currently in Omaha NE and absolutely loving it! from watching 25 cataract surgeries with a few combined MIGS procedures as well as oculoplastics with Vance Thompson Vision to learning lots about fitting bifocal contact lenses, meeting with reps and how to run your own practice. don’t forget to get your yearly eye exams as we start Q4! xx taken in Omaha, Nebraska by @dr_abbyod
