In this video is everyone your legacy touches. Your grandchildren, who carry your name in how they think and how they show up. Your son, still learning from you every day. And your daughter in law, expecting the next grandchild who will carry your legacy before she even arrives.

Happy birthday, Dad.

There is no better gift I could give you than this. Bidding Farewell to the Black Man is officially published, the second of your manuscripts I have carried to completion, with one more still ahead.

You titled this work with a clear meaning. It was never a farewell to Black men. It was a farewell to the condition forced onto them, the erasure, the narrative, the weight of a story written by everyone except them. You spent your career trying to end that condition, not the people living inside it.

When I finished this book without you, the title took on a second meaning. My own farewell, to you. Bidding farewell to the Black man begins with bidding farewell to you, Ol’ Dad.

Two farewells living in one title. Yours to a condition. Mine to a father. Both refusing to let the truth be buried.

And today is not just your birthday. Your grandson graduated today too. On the same day your legacy reached another finish line, his began. You are still teaching this family how to move forward.

Two down, Dad. One more to bring home.

Three generations under one roof, one more on the way. My father surrounded by the very legacy he built. Me, my brother, my sister in law carrying the next generation, and the grandchildren who already carry his name in how they move through the world.

Today, I honor the life and legacy of Ida B. Wells, born July 16, 1862.

Long before it was safe, she documented the truth, challenged injustice, and refused to be silenced. Her courage reminds us that words have power, truth has purpose, and silence is never the answer.

As I continue my own work through research, writing, psychology, and advocacy, I recognize those who made it possible to speak boldly. Ida B. Wells helped shape the path. I am grateful to walk it.

Her work. Her legacy. Our responsibility to continue.

America declares states of emergency for hurricanes, floods, and viruses. But there is one emergency this country has never declared in three and a half centuries, because declaring it would require admitting who built it.

So let me declare it!!

The Black State of Emergency in AmeriKKKa is live now. The crisis that never left, from the cases closing too fast, to the sanctuaries sued out of existence, to the war we run on each other WHILE THE REAL ONE MARCHES PAST US.
