"Our wedding wasn't half Nigerian and half British. It was completely Nigerian and completely British."

That sentence says everything about Jo and Jonny's wedding.

Rather than blending their cultures into something in between, they celebrated both in full. The day began with a traditional Idoma marriage ceremony honouring Jo's heritage, before the couple changed into a ballgown and morning suit for a Christian ceremony at St James' Church. Guests then returned to Beamish Hall for a candlelit reception, where Jonny surprised Jo by singing to her in front of everyone they love.

Planning a wedding that honoured two cultures wasn't always easy. Working demanding NHS jobs while juggling multiple ceremonies, suppliers and traditions showed them how little practical guidance existed for couples planning multicultural weddings. It even inspired them to create their own wedding planning platform to help others.

For Jo, the most important thing was never choosing between her identities.

It was making space for all of them.

If your wedding reflected your heritage, traditions or family story, what would be the one detail you'd make sure was included?
