Protein has gone from under-appreciated to over-prescribed in the wellness world. And like most things in nutrition… the truth sits somewhere in the middle.

Protein is essential.

It supports muscle, hormones, neurotransmitters, and overall physiological resilience. It also provides calories and does influence insulin.

But more is not always better.

Protein needs are not universal. They vary depending on the individual, digestion, metabolic health, inflammatory status, activity level, and underlying disease processes.

So when you hear a fixed target like “1.2g per pound of body weight,” it’s worth pausing.

Because what if:
• your digestion isn’t breaking it down well
• your overall metabolic context doesn’t match that demand
• or your system is reacting to specific protein antigens in ways that are unsupportive.

Nutrition is not a one-size-fits-all formula.
There is no single “optimal” protein number that applies to every body. Most nutrition trends: no context.

If you're unsure what you need to prioritize....as the case with some of my patients (intermittent fasting vs. getting all their proteins, or dairy intolerance vs. cottage cheese for their daily >170g/day assumed needs), let's take a step back and assess what the body needs today in your current condition.

With loads of love for all those who are loving and enjoying their optimal protein diet. This message is only meant to bring balance 💗 by @dr_negin_nd

Even "natural" medicine can miss the mark. You don't need more supplements. You need a smarter plan. #therapeuticorder #symptomsuppression #ldnontario #naturopathicdoctor #ontarionaturopath by @dr_negin_nd

“We've run the tests. Everything looks normal. There's not much more we can do.”

But you're still dealing with the headaches. The pain. The tension. The symptoms that affect your sleep, your energy, your daily life — and for which you still don't have a satisfying answer.

If this sounds familiar, I want you to know that just because a clear explanation or solution hasn't been found doesn't mean your symptoms aren't real or can't be helped.

And sometimes, exploring a different approach is worthwhile.

🌿 This is where acupuncture may be worth considering.

Traditional Chinese medicine acupuncture has been studied for a range of concerns, including certain types of chronic pain, headaches, and nausea, hormonal concerns including infertility and depending on what you're experiencing, it may help reduce symptoms, improve your quality of life, and help you feel more comfortable in your body.

You don't have to wait until you've exhausted every other option to explore it.

A balanced hormonal system isn't just about how much and what hormones your body produces. It's also equally important how those hormones are metabolized or cleared out. Think of estrogen metabolism (or detoxification) like a traffic system. Opening one lane doesn't help much if the next one is backed up.

Your liver plays a central role in processing estrogen, transforming it into metabolites that can be eliminated from the body. And there are multiple steps to the liver's process each with its own nutrient needs.

So what can contribute to a traffic jam?

✨ When Your liver is missing the ingredients needed for all its clearance steps (i.e. all lanes in the hwy need to be open)!

✨ Your gut: Constipation, altered gut function and changes in the microbiome can influence how estrogen metabolites are eliminated or recycled.

✨ The bigger picture: Hormone metabolism involves multiple interconnected pathways. Supporting one aspect doesn't automatically mean you've addressed everything relevant to your individual needs.

This is exactly why I formulated my own Balanced Hormones supplement. I wanted a more comprehensive combination of ingredients to support multiple aspects of estrogen metabolism ensuring smooth traffic through the liver and gut!

It's become one of my most popular formulas in practice—and one I can barely keep in stock!

If PMS, breast tenderness, bloating or mood changes are affecting your quality of life, don't just chase individual symptoms. Let's look at the bigger picture and determine what kind of support makes sense for YOU.

Because good naturopathic care isn't about throwing supplements at symptoms. It's about understanding the person behind them. 🩷

Wₕₐₜ dᵢd yₒᵤ ₜₕᵢₙₖ?

Were you expecting pictures of my meals and a list of rules telling you what to eat?

I won’t tell you how to eat but I will tell you this:
🫜eat whole,
🫜minimally processed foods,
🫜seasonally, locally & mindfully,
🫜listen to your body, and
🫜eat according to your traditional diet.
No FADS, No guilt.

Yes, I avoid 𝕘𝕝𝕦𝕥𝕖𝕟 because I have an autoimmune thyroid condition. But I won't say 𝗻𝗼 to my son’s homemade sourdough bread.

The blood type diet? I don’t follow it religiously, but I appreciate some of its recommendations. My blood type is supposedly suited to eating more red meat, which works out perfectly because I love red meat. I know myself well enough to know that veganism is not for me.

I eat seasonally & locally when possible, prioritize whole, minimally processed foods, variety, and eating as close to traditional dietary patterns as I can. You may need to explore what traditional meals you enjoy because SAD (Standard American Diet) is sad.

I don't believe in superfoods. I don't subscribe to every new nutrition trend, food rule, or catchy dietary motto. No single food is going to make or break your health.

Plus, what works for me may not work for you.

Your nutritional needs, health conditions, culture, preferences, lifestyle, and relationship with food all matter. If you have a medical reason to avoid certain foods or a therapeutic diet that works for you, that's a different conversation.

But please, don't let diet culture turn eating into a source of guilt, anxiety, or shame.

Eat foods that nourish you. Find what you enjoy. Cook with your family. Prepare meals with love. Sit down with the people you care about. Eat mindfully. Enjoy your food.

Because nutrition matters, but so does your relationship with food. And sometimes, the joy, connection, and pleasure that come from sharing a meal are just as important (if not more important) to your overall well-being.

Eat well. Eat with joy. Make it your own. ❤️

Hormone therapy isn’t a one-size-fits-all prescription. Your dose and treatment plan should be individualized based on your family history, medical history, past responses to hormones (PMS/PMDD, birth control, pregnancy), and how you’re responding now.

Are your symptoms improving? Are you tolerating treatment well? What about mood changes, breast tenderness, unexpected bleeding, or other concerning changes?

Blood work is an important piece of the puzzle, but it’s not the whole picture. Your symptoms, history, and clinical assessment matter, too.

For many patients on ongoing hormone therapy, monitoring every 6 months is appropriate, though the frequency depends on the treatment and individual circumstances.

If it’s been over 6 months since I’ve seen you, please book a follow-up.

Have a prescription from your family doctor or gynecologist but aren’t getting regular follow-up? You’re welcome to book with me. I’ll work alongside your existing healthcare team, not against them, to help ensure your treatment is being monitored and your health doesn’t fall through the cracks.

Our healthcare system is stretched. That’s nobody’s individual fault, but your health still deserves attention 🩷

The part about facial acupuncture that can get missed: yes, there is the beauty component — acupuncture can stimulate circulation and collagen production and support the appearance of skin tone, texture and fine lines.

But Chinese medicine has a much deeper philosophy of beauty:

Your face reflects what is happening within.

When you’re constantly stressed, tense, depleted, overworked or dysregulated, it doesn’t just affect how you feel.

It can show up in your face.

That’s why facial rejuvenation acupuncture isn’t simply about “fixing wrinkles.”

It’s about supporting the whole person.

Patients commonly tell me they notice things like:

• feeling deeply relaxed and calmer
• less tension held in the jaw, forehead and face
• a sense of being more grounded and regulated
• improved overall sense of wellbeing
• feeling refreshed rather than simply “treated”
• and, of course, noticing a brighter, more rested-looking complexion

And there’s something beautiful about that distinction.

This isn't beauty at the expense of your wellbeing.
It’s beauty that comes from taking care of your wellbeing.

Because maybe what you actually need isn’t another product.

Maybe you need an hour where nobody needs anything from you.

No meals to make.
No emails to answer.
No children asking for snacks.
No work problem to solve.
No one else's emotions to manage.

Just stillness.

A chance for your nervous system to exhale.

A chance to receive instead of constantly giving.

For the exhausted mom, employee, wife, sister, daughter, friend — the woman who has become so accustomed to putting herself at the bottom of the list that she almost forgets what it feels like to be cared for…

This is your reminder that you are allowed to receive care, too.

Yes, we’re supporting your skin.

But we’re also creating space to nourish the woman underneath it.

Take advantage of the October Acupuncture offering while there's still time! Book in for 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝗰𝘂𝗽𝘂𝗻𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗼" if you've never received TCM or Facial Rejuvenation acupuncture from me.

My Saturday morning routine: mixing my water cocktail 😜

This little mix works for me. For you, adding 6 powders to your water might be the opposite of 𝙚𝙛𝙛𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙩.

That's part of what I do in my visits with you: help you figure out what's actually worth your resources right now.

Whether that's:

⭐improving supplement quality,
🎯choosing a more appropriate therapeutic dose (because efficiency means you're seeing results),
📌simplifying your routine,
⚠️deciding what goal to prioritize or
🧅which systemic health concern to address next (peeling layers off the onion one by one).

Your version of 𝙚𝙛𝙛𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙩 may look different than mine. And that's okay. You don't have to keep throwing things at your health and hoping something sticks. We can figure out what's actually worth your time, energy and money.

I'm not anti-GLP-1's as they be a helpful tool for many! Problem is, when the medication becomes the whole strategy.

A GLP-1 can't teach you to recognize when you're eating from stress, boredom or emotion. It can't teach you the difference between being hungry and being exhausted. It can't build your relationship with food, make you prioritize nourishing meals, strength train, or support your recovery & restorative sleep.

That's the work. And that work still matters.

A GLP-1 can help reduce appetite and support weight loss, but it doesn't necessarily address the factors contributing to your health & metabolism. And if the medication becomes the only strategy, what happens when you stop taking it?

So if you're considering a GLP-1, my message isn't “don't do it.”

It's: don't let the medication become your health plan.

And remember: the GLP-1 pathway is only one piece of a much bigger metabolic picture. Thyroid and sex hormones, insulin sensitivity, muscle, mitochondrial nutrients, antioxidant status, liver function, sleep, stress, nutrition and so much more all influence metabolism and body composition.

There is no single shot that can do all of that work for you.

If you're using a GLP-1 and want support beyond appetite suppression, I can help you look at what else may be influencing your weight and body composition goals. When appropriate, we can use bloodwork to investigate what may be getting in the way and create a plan that supports your whole metabolic system—not just one receptor.

Virtual appointments available to Ontario residents.

We're so used to asking, "how do I get rid of this?"

But sometimes a better question is: what is this trying to tell me?

The body has a remarkable way of communicating when you understand its language.

If you need help with that, I'm here to help you translate your body's signals into practical things you can understand and actually do.

That's the root-cause approach to Naturopathic medicine.
