The Daddy’s Home Meditation šŸ‘‡

When you pull up at your house after a long days of work do this first…

1. Leave your phone in the cup holder and sit in silence for 2 minutes
2. Take two quick inhales through the nose, long slow exhale out the mouth. Repeat 5x
3. Name the state you want to bring through the front door, say it out loud: ā€œpatient dadā€, ā€œgrounded partner

Enter your home with intention.

You are responsible for creating a joyful atmosphere in the home your kids grow up in.

Hi, my name is Adi.
To the 70 or so new friends who’ve joined me this past month, welcome. Here’s what I’m up to.

I’m a pediatric dentist by trade, and a meditation teacher and student. I’ve been doing both for about 15 years.

I came to America as a refugee, fleeing the war in Bosnia in the early ā€˜90s. The joy of my world is my family. I count my blessings every day.

I started meditating in 2009 after binge-watching basically every Alan Watts video on YouTube. I joined a Zen community, sat many many three-day silent retreats, and eventually became a teacher there. In 2017 I sat a week in silence at Diamond Hill Zen Monastery. It was one of the most transformative experiences of my life, and yet nothing special happened. It’s a paradox I can’t explain, but my mind and relationships are all the better for it.

The next seismic shift came in November 2024, when I quit alcohol. My drinking was occasional by then, but I suspected it was quietly holding back my growth. So I listened to that still, small voice and joined a 90-day sobriety program (shoutout @thestopdrinkingcoach , forever grateful, brother).

It unlocked energy I didn’t know I had and led to the two best years of my life. More focus. More money. More vitality. More playfulness.

So I created The Clearing: A 90-Day Contemplative Sobriety Program for Men. Our first cohort ran this summer, and the guys came out glowing. Huge thanks to @erickgodsey , without whose guidance The Clearing would still be just a dream.

Here’s what I’ve learned: real change that sticks is extremely hard on your own. You need motivation and accountability. I know I did.

My mission is to empower men to make lasting change in their minds and bodies through meditative practice. A lot of men want this, but don’t have a place or a brotherhood to do it with. So I built one.

My Skool community is now open. We commit to practice and meet every other week on Zoom to train together and chop it up. It’s $25/month for the first 25 founding members, and a few spots are already taken. After that, the price goes up.

Comment CLEAR and I’ll send you a link to see what we’re up to. If it’s not for you, no worries. I’m grateful you’re here. by @dradi

Fall down 7 times get up 8 times.

Everything unfolded this way for me.

Getting a handle on my physical health, my meditative practice, the inner work I did to digest self worth issues when I was younger, learning how to play guitar, the list goes on.

The pattern is always the same.

No felt sense of progress and then BOOM all of a sudden it clicks and we’re cruisin.
I love that feeling.

From time to time I catch myself in the ā€œI’m not being negative, I’m just being realisticā€ mind frame.

Today, I’m reminded that every time I thought I’d found myself in a cul-de-sac, every time I was certain I’d hit some sort of dead end…lo and behold… I found a way out.

I was recently doing a ā€œdeep diveā€ with a friend who said (referring to Life):

ā€œYou’re in a box. Stuck. Don’t know how you’re gonna get out. And then… A MIRACLE happens! The box gets bigger !!ā€

And even though a part of me scoffs (there are after all real troubles in this world) there really is a deep truth in what he said that does match up with my experience, if I’m being honest.

So how do we shift from pessimism to realism? Underneath all of it is REPETITION. Thoughts become habits, so you retrain your mind the way you’d build any other habit šŸ‘‡

Expect the best. Deliberately hold an image of the outcome you want, talk about it, write about it, pray about it, and have some trust for God’s sake. Drop ā€œimpossibleā€ from your vocabulary.

Believe in yourself. Picture yourself succeeding and refuse to dwell on images of failure. Minimize obstacles instead of inflating them. Do affirmations if you must. If it feels fake or awkward at first, so be it.

Develop POWER to reach goals. Get ā€œin tuneā€ with IT (Nature, God) for more energy. Digest your resentment, guilt, and fear, and be done with them. They’re draining you.

Stop worrying so damn much, it’s just a bad habit, like nail bitting. You don’t know enough to worry! Empty your mind of fears daily. Start with small worries and work up. Meditate to quiet the mind.

Improve your relationships! Genuinely like people, remember names, praise sincerely, and be easy to be around. FORGIVE QUICKLY.

Control what you can. Your attitude toward a situation matters more than the situation itself. Break big problems into little steps and act with faith rather than panic.

And lastly, be kind to yourself. Let go of guilt and self-criticism, if you’ve made mistakes, own them and forgive yourself already. If you can’t do that, then ask for forgiveness. Accept a relaxed, easygoing pace instead of constant strain.

Go to bed a little earlier tonight!

I know people work hard all day and have family responsibilities after that. The last hours of the day feel like it’s the only leisure time we get, but I’m telling you, run this experiment for a week and see how you feel.

I shifted my bedtime up just 30-45 minutes earlier this week and it feels like I’m in a slowly improved reality all of a sudden. And it’s holding steady throughout the day!

I implore you to try it ! by @dradi

Meditation: E. L. I. 5. šŸ‘‡

You know how sometimes your brain feels like a snow globe that just got shaken up? All the thoughts are swirling everywhere?

Meditation is just... sitting still and quiet, and watching the snow settle. You don’t have to do anything. You don’t have to catch the snowflakes or push them away. You just wait, and breathe, and let them fall.

When the snow settles, the water gets clear again. And you can see all the way to the bottom. That clear water? That’s you. That’s what’s there when the thoughts calm down.

So meditation isn’t about having no thoughts. It’s about letting them settle, so you can see clearly again. by @dradi

Am I doing it right?

One of the most common questions beginner meditators ask.

My teacher used to say ā€œDon’t check your practice, just do itā€

And for someone just starting out on the path this style of teaching can be helpful. The idea being that if you are too involved with ā€œcheckingā€ your technique, your posture, the time of day you sit, what you’re supposed to be feeling (or not feeling), then you are obscuring the natural state of JUST BEING with more and more thinking, making the water cloudier when you could just sit still and allow it to settle.

With that said, I do think it’s helpful to also point out that this practice will eventually bear fruit if you stick with it and one of the most important ways this shows up is in your relationships with others and in your emotional reactivity.

A calm, assertive energy will grow in you as you continue down the path.

Daddy’s Home Meditation Question: Daddy like, but what about the dads out there who work from home? I started a new gig recently and this has been the biggest adjustment for me Adi. I used to have an hour for myself otw home, now it’s all blennnding together brother

Excellent point to bring up.

The truth is even for dads who work from the meditation I described in my last reel is still accessible during the transition from work time to family time.

The bigger more important thing to remember is that if you work from home you MUST carve out time for yourself

Don’t underestimate what even 10-20 mins will do for your psyche.

Early AM works best for me.

And use that sacred time to meditate or journal. Not to numb out. This is not time for stimulation or sedation. It’s a time to just be with yourself. by @dradi
