We talk about fatherlessness. And we should. It is one of the defining crises of our generation, and the data backs it up. Fatherless homes are linked to nearly every major social challenge we face — from crime to mental health to broken relationships. Men are waking up to this. And that is a good thing.
But there is another epidemic quietly running alongside it that we don’t talk about nearly enough.
Brotherlessness.
Men who have no one. No real friends. No one who knows their name, knows their fight, knows when they’ve gone quiet. Men who are white-knuckling life alone, pretending they’re fine, slowly losing ground — not because they’re weak, but because they were never designed to do this alone.
Danny Silk puts it this way:
“Most are aware of the issue of fatherlessness that needs to be solved in our world. What if we also looked at brotherlessness — and keeping each other in the game?”
Building deep, covenant relationships with other men is not just a good idea. It is necessary. Necessary for the health of our men. Necessary for the health of our marriages and families. Necessary for the health of our world.
We cannot solve fatherlessness without first solving brotherlessness. Men who are connected, accountable, and in covenant with one another become better fathers, better husbands, better leaders.
It starts with brotherhood.

The first one to listen wins.

Not the loudest. Not the most convincing. Not the one with the best argument ready to go. The one who gets quiet first and actually tries to understand what the other person needs.

That is a completely different way of entering a hard conversation. Most of us walk into conflict already loaded. Already defending. Already preparing our case before the other person has finished their first sentence.

But what if you walked in as a servant instead. Not weak. Not a pushover. A servant. Someone who says I know you need something right now and I want to understand what it is.

That one shift changes everything. The tone of the conversation. The outcome. The way the other person feels about you when it is over.

It works in your marriage. It works with your kids. It works with a coworker or a friend you have been at odds with for months.

Whoever gets there first wins. Not wins the argument. Wins the relationship.

In this month’s Global Call, Eric Knopf shared a provoking thought that challenged us all: the “open door trap.”
Yes, God opens doors, and we are meant to walk through some of them. But we shouldn’t only be looking for the easy way forward. We should also be looking for closed doors to knock on.
Matthew 7 extends an invitation to knock on a closed door so that it will be opened to you. It’s the act of seeking out the closed doors, avoiding the path of least resistance, and pressing in to contend for the very thing God has called you to push into.
If we only ever walk through the doors that are already wide open, we put ourselves on the fast track to a mediocre Christian life. Real growth—and real dragon slaying—happens when you have the courage to knock on the doors that are shut.

Because the moment you stop trying to fix, manage, and control everyone around you and start taking radical ownership of yourself, everything changes. Your communication changes. Your marriage changes. The atmosphere of your home changes.

Powerful people look inward. Powerless people look for someone to blame.

💯 Most men in their 60s have one friend. Their wife.

And when she's gone, they remarry fast. Not for the reasons people assume. But because their only friend just died.

That is one of the loneliest sentences you will ever read. And it is happening quietly, all around us, to men who never saw it coming. Men who were busy. Men who provided. Men who showed up for everyone else and somewhere along the way forgot to invest in anyone who would show up for them.

You ask a man in his late 50s how many close friends he has. He starts counting. Runs out of names before he runs out of fingers. Then mentions a guy in Albuquerque he hasn't spoken to in 15 years.

Those are the lucky ones. Most guys have nobody.

This is not about being soft. This is about being alive. Really alive. With people who know your name and your story and would answer the phone at midnight.
