Merry Christmas. Birth of our savior is worth celebrating. Drakes are expanding, 1 new addition in May and 1 in June! Next Christmas will be a little wilder. by @draket1991

I miss that Florida air this time of year! Breathing in salt and warm weather. Well, three buddies and I found the closest thing to it at Lumen + Root in Corning, Iowa. We booked a 45 minute session in a therapeutic medical grade salt room. We didn’t have to change our clothes, we went as is. We sat in four reclining chairs and proceeded to visit. Only important subjects! Ha ha. After about 30 minutes, I could breathe better. My congestion was gone and I left with a better attitude. We booked it at 5:30 in the evening and then we went and ate supper together downtown. The room is big enough to have a small business meeting. #lumen+root by @draket1991

That won’t work is a statement that needs eradication from our vocabulary in SW Iowa. Someone told me you can’t get started in cattle on your own. BS. Meet my neighbor. Buy 1 head, then 2, then 4. Figure it out. Same with farming. Start with custom work while you have a job. Many have done it. Hard yes, but possible! Long hours yes, but worth it. New Tiger Pizza, Blind Tiger both in Lenox. Main scoop and Coffee Trough in Corning. Seems like opportunity knocking everywhere to me. If it doesn’t work, pivot. Safety is our enemy that protects us being comfortable. by @draket1991

Last night the McManis family sold a gelding at the Rancho Rio sale in Arizona that was raised and trained here in SW Iowa. It was a huge success. $50k Thanks for showcasing the best of what SW Iowa has to offer. by @draket1991

I am seeing a trend of young adults from rural California going to college in the Midwest. Their families want out of the California crazy and cost structures. They are getting jobs and then recruiting their parents to move wherever they settle in the Midwest. We have hired some of these talented kids. Wow, rural communities need to be promoting this. They are different minded because they have an attitude of a pioneer and share our Midwest values. Yes, please too more of these sharp young people and their families moving in.

We started Fire & Salt Co. the day a select number of packers declared they were no longer in the meat business, they were in the protein business. Also, select grocery chains sold out the cattle farms by giving shelf space to fake meat, oat milk, and other highly processed animal substitutes. The message to family farms was clear. We say vote against companies that don't support animal agriculture by buying from those who do. #Balance4ward by @draket1991
