$A patient shown before and 12 months after a circumferential abdominoplasty and breast implant revision, performed as a combined procedure. A circumferential abdominoplasty removes loose skin around the full circumference of the trunk, rather than the front of the abdomen alone, addressing the flanks, lower back, upper thighs and buttocks, as well as the anterior abdominal wall. It is most often considered after substantial weight loss, where skin laxity extends around the body. Terms such as "360-abdominoplasty", "belt lipectomy" and "body lift" are used interchangeably with circumferential abdominoplasty. This reflects that fact that altering the position of the scar can exert different effects on the lower back/flanks vs the outer thighs/buttocks. Recovery: Hospital stay for 3-5 days, compression garments and lymphatic massage for at least 6 weeks, minimum 4 weeks off work and 6 weeks of no heavy lifting or strenuous exercise. Swelling will take at least 6-9 months to fully settle. __ Dr Alex Cameron, Specialist Plastic Surgeon MBBS PhD FRACS AHPRA Registration: MED000119525 Results vary according to patient-specific factors. $An abdominoplasty in a 39 year old mother of two, shown at 9 months post-operatively. Post-pregnancy abdominoplasty removes excess skin, reconstructs the muscle wall and restores the abdominal contour - a procedure with both functional and aesthetic significance. A refined result comes from waist definition, (aided by liposuction if necessary), precise scar position (to remain concealed by undergarments), and tension distributed to create optimal contour. $Can I choose the size of my breasts after a breast reduction? The size and shape of your breasts after surgery is an important part of planning a breast reduction. It is possible to tailor the shape to your frame and preferences, keeping in mind the limitations set by your starting breast size and anatomy. Many women want to be as small as possible. They have often lived with sore shoulders, back and neck for years and want to relieve that burden. There is a limit to how small the breast can be made, because a reduction is not a mastectomy: some breast tissue has to stay to create the shape of a breast. Within that limit, the breast can be made as small as possible to help ease those symptoms. Other women want to keep some size because they feel it suits their frame. That can be done too, with the caveat that removing less tissue may have less effect on symptoms. How much tissue is removed can be tailored to your goals, and it’s one of the main things we talk through in consultation. $Scarring is, understandably, one of the first things patients ask about before plastic surgery. A scar is the visible trace of something remarkable — the body’s capacity to heal. Without it, surgery wouldn’t be possible. During my surgical training I completed a PhD investigating the cellular and molecular processes that determine why scars form the way they do. That research shapes how I think about scars now: not as a hindrance, but as a tool. Like any tool, it has to be used with care — thoughtful scar placement, and attention to every factor that contributes to the best possible result. This is central to the art of plastic surgery. Just as important is knowing what to expect. Scars evolve over months, and understanding how yours will look at each stage of healing is part of preparing properly for a procedure. — Dr Alex Cameron, Specialist Plastic Surgeon MBBS B Med Sci PhD FRACS by @dralexcameronfracs$

$Breast implant revision in a 36 year old woman. Implants: Motiva 450cc Demi Swipe through the carousel to see a case analysis. Questions to consider in breast implant revision: 1. Can my old implants simply be swapped over for new ones? In general — no. The trigger for implant revision is usually a change in the appearance of the breast due to implant malposition or soft tissue changes, or discomfort from capsular contracture. Simply exchanging implants will not address these factors. 2. What other procedures are necessary as part of breast implant revision? These can include partial or complete capsulectomy, change of implant plane, repair of your pectoralis muscle, reconstruction of your breast fold, use of internal mesh, mastopexy or fat grafting. 3. What happens if I no longer want breast implants? This may require procedures to restore a functional and aesthetic breast, such as capsulectomy, muscle repair, mastopexy or fat grafting. 4. Will Medicare or my health fund cover my implant revision? Where there is a genuine complication — such as significant capsular contracture or implant rupture — Medicare item numbers may apply, and private health funds may contribute, even if your implants were originally placed for cosmetic reasons. Purely cosmetic exchange is not covered. Eligibility depends on your individual circumstances and will be assessed at consultation. 5. Why wasn't I told about the need for revision surgery? You should have been - with current techniques and technology, most women will require revision surgery within 10 to 20 years, and sometimes sooner due to pregnancy or weight change. Transparency about this is a vital part of the consult before breast augmentation. — Dr Alex Cameron, Specialist Plastic Surgeon (MBBS PhD FRACS) AHPRA registration: MED 000119525 Results vary according to patient-specific factors. $Why does lipoedema surgery at Morphē involve two surgeons? Dr George Balalis, a specialist obesity surgeon, and I operate together, each with a liposuction setup — allowing greater volume removal in a safe timeframe. We use a “lymphatic-sparing” technique: tumescent-based, power-assisted liposuction with a variety of cannulas, chosen to minimise damage to the lymphatic system while still clearing the abnormal lipoedema fat effectively. An important distinction: weight does not cause lipoedema. It’s a distinct condition of abnormal fat distribution — but many women living with lipoedema do also carry additional weight alongside it. That’s where George’s expertise continues before and, more importantly, after surgery. Long-term weight stability is associated with a lower risk of recurrence or progression. Surgery is one step in Lipoedema management - the plan around it is what makes it durable. All surgery carries risks and requires a consultation to determine suitability. — Dr Alex Cameron, Specialist Plastic Surgeon MBBS B Med Sci FRACS #plasticsurgeonadelaide #lipooedema #plasticsurgery # by @dralexcameronfracs$

$Breast reduction is much more than an aesthetic operation. By relieving the constant load carried through the neck, shoulders and back, breast reduction addresses symptoms many women have simply learned to live with — chronic pain, strap grooving, skin irritation beneath the breast, and the quiet withdrawal from exercise and activity that follows. In 2008, a Finnish study found that breast reduction experienced a gain in quality of life comparable to total hip replacement, and even greater than knee replacement. We think of joint replacement as unquestionably worthwhile surgery. The evidence asks us to think of breast reduction the same way. $An abdominoplasty is not a one-size-fits-all procedure. At its core it addresses changes in the abdominal skin and muscles that follow weight change, pregnancy or ageing — but it can also extend to the areas contiguous with the abdomen: the mons, flanks, upper thighs, back and buttocks. A standard abdominoplasty, with the scar confined between the hips, usually suits post-pregnancy changes. An extended abdominoplasty, with the scar reaching the flanks, may be required where both weight change and pregnancy have had an effect. A circumferential abdominoplasty — also called a 360-degree abdominoplasty or body lift — is the most extensive way to recontour the abdomen along with the flanks, thighs and buttocks. It is often appropriate after significant weight loss. Almost all abdominoplasty types address separation of the abdominal muscles (rectus divarication), which may have functional benefit for some patients with a significant post-pregnancy gap. Every body and its story is different, so every abdominoplasty I perform is unique. Abdominoplasty is major surgery. Risks include bleeding, infection, wound-healing problems, changes in sensation, seroma, and the possible need for revision. Scars are permanent and mature over 12–18 months. Recovery takes several weeks. A consultation and GP referral are required to assess suitability, and you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified practitioner before proceeding. $The body is a tube. After significant weight loss, excess skin doesn't sit only on the front of the abdomen — it accumulates around the whole circumference. Which is why a Fleur-de-Lis abdominoplasty, for all its efficiency, is rarely my recommendation where a defined waist is the goal. It removes skin vertically and horizontally, but it leaves a vertical midline scar, it makes the construction of a natural neo-umbilicus (belly button) more difficult, and it tends to blunt the waist. A circumferential approach (also known as a body lift or 360 degree abdominoplasty) removes the excess where it actually sits, and allows the tissue to be re-draped in a way that preserves waist-to-hip definition. It sacrifices some tightening of the upper abdomen, but I believe it achieves a more anatomical result — afer all, the natural surfaces of the trunk are made up of curves, not flat planes. For men, who seek a more block-shaped torso, the reverse can apply, and a Fleur-de-Lis may help achieve that. Keep in mind this is titrated against your individual anatomy and preferences. Every body after weight loss is different, and so is the right operation. All surgery carries risk. These decisions are made individually, in consultation. $At Morphē, Dr Alex Cameron and Dr George Balalis work together to provide coordinated surgical care for patients with lipoedema. This collaborative approach combines their surgical expertise with careful assessment, individualised treatment planning and multidisciplinary support before and after surgery. Surgical treatment is not suitable for everyone. Each patient requires a comprehensive assessment to discuss their symptoms, medical history, previous treatments, and the potential benefits, limitations and risks of surgery. If this feels familiar, speak with your GP, therapist or contact Morphē to learn more about our lipoedema treatment pathway. #lipoedemaaustralia #morpheclinic #dralexcameronplasticsurgeon #drgeorgebalalis by @dralexcameronfracs$

$Breasts naturally change over the years with time, weight, pregnancy and ageing, and implants are not considered lifetime devices. We invite you to attend an annual review, where we check your breasts and implants and perform an ultrasound if needed. Please contact us promptly — at any stage, even years later — if you notice a new lump, swelling, a change in size or shape, pain, or increasing firmness. Continue routine breast cancer screening as recommended for your age, and let the radiographer know you have implants. #breastimplants #plasticsurgeonadelaide by @dralexcameronfracs$
