Why does lipoedema surgery at Morphē involve two surgeons?
Dr George Balalis, a specialist obesity surgeon, and I operate together, each with a liposuction setup — allowing greater volume removal in a safe timeframe.
We use a “lymphatic-sparing” technique: tumescent-based, power-assisted liposuction with a variety of cannulas, chosen to minimise damage to the lymphatic system while still clearing the abnormal lipoedema fat effectively.
An important distinction: weight does not cause lipoedema. It’s a distinct condition of abnormal fat distribution — but many women living with lipoedema do also carry additional weight alongside it. That’s where George’s expertise continues before and, more importantly, after surgery. Long-term weight stability is associated with a lower risk of recurrence or progression.
Surgery is one step in Lipoedema management - the plan around it is what makes it durable.
All surgery carries risks and requires a consultation to determine suitability.

What is recovery like post Lipedema surgery? Is there a post op team in hospital or in clinic?

Is it just liposuction that is done or do you do leg/arm reshaping, as part of the surgery approach? I ask as many women could benefit from skin removal to deal with the excess skin post weightloss and liposuction?

We're you trained by any of the OS Lipoedema specialist surgeons who've had years of experience? How costly are these surgeries?
