What’s better for an Ardbeg fan than the release of a new Ardbeg? Maybe hitting the jackpot and getting the opportunity to try an old Ardbeg as well! The new 15-year-old Trudernish alongside the older Ardbeg 1990 Airigh Nam Beist.

A delicious new release that lacks the sharpness of younger Ardbegs, bringing together a lot of citrus, a lovely restrained sweetness, and a mild peat smoke. This stands in contrast to the vintage 1990 Ardbeg, which completely fills the mouth with a thick, fruity sweetness and that signature Ardbeg peat.

Quite different from each other, yet both exceptionally tasty... so why choose?

There are distilleries I’m less familiar with and haven't tried much from yet—Glen Garioch, located in the northeast of Scotland, is one of them. So, I was really glad that WhiskyTastingFestival Utrecht had a festival bottling from this distillery: a 13-year-old Glen Garioch at 57.5% ABV, bottled by Whiskybase/Archives.

On the nose, it offers sweet cereals, biscuits, vanilla, and a slight sharp edge. The palate is rich and creamy, with notes of shortbread, honey, and sweet winegums (orange), followed by a peppery kick in the finish. Thanks to that creamy character, the flavors linger delightfully in the mouth for a while.

What a wonderful Saturday afternoon at the WhiskyTastingFestival in Utrecht! Thank you @whiskymeisje and the @wtfwhiskyfestival for the tickets I won for this fantastic festival. And there was so much to discover again! A very nice festival bottling (Glen Garioch 13), a new 99 and One from Living Souls, a lovely Japanese whisky, something new from Cley and a number of top whiskies from SMWS. And the grand finale didn't disappoint either—a gorgeous Longrow and a deliciously aged Ardbeg. In between, I had the chance to sit back and listen to @pummyclicks great story about the Amrut distillery while enjoying a few of these Indian whiskies. Thanks @whiskyweekenddram , Timo, and @jorik_jh for the great company today! And it was great to see and speak so many whisky friends again! by @dram.mel

Ah, the good old days! Like the movie Masters of the Universe takes me back to my youth (He-Man), there are also whiskies sitting on my shelf that hold fond memories. Take this Highland Park 12, 40%—easy-going, but it truly set me on the whisky path to where I am today. A beautiful keepsake from the past, and wonderful to revisit every now and then.

Scotland, Italian style! Do Scottish ruggedness and Italian elegance come together nicely in this bottle? Let's taste. Sweet smoke on the nose, accompanied by flavors of apricot, orange, subtle (cookie)spices, and minerals wrapped in a sweet BBQ smoke. The finish isn't particularly long, but as an Ardbeg fan, this "sweetie" definitely puts a smile on my face.

Een paar maanden geleden mocht ik een proeverij geven voor de vijftigste verjaardag van een goede vriend. Melle zat in Ierland aan de whiskey en wij genoten van een heel mooie reeks whisky’s. Van beginnende whisky drinker tot doorgewinterde liefhebber. Van Glendronach 12 tot de uitzonderlijke Macallan En Primeur. 🔥

Het leuke is dat we samen al twee keer naar Schotland zijn geweest, dus de Kilkerran Handfill en Ballindalloch mochten natuurlijk niet ontbreken.

Hot off the press: this Tòrr na Darach by PerfectDram. An 11-year-old Tomintoul aged in an ex-bourbon cask, coming in at a punchy 55,5%. Creamy, with notes of vanilla, honeycomb, subtle fruitiness, and cereal grains. Perfect dram for a sunset after a warm day!

Imagine this: a wooden bowl of vanilla pudding topped with orange zest, beechnuts, hazelnuts, dried fruits, and finished with a drizzle of chocolate and a dash of black pepper. Give it a good stir! Would you eat this?.. No way!

But would you drink it? Absolutely! Because these are the flavors you'll discover in the Bunnahabhain 12 Cask Strength (56.4%). Delicious!

Sometimes it's fun to experiment a little with whisky. Harro, @whiskyweekenddram gave me this bottle of Snippers Rum (which he used to finish his own whisky... so for me, it’s a kind of second-fill now). You take a whisky or another spirit and pour it into the bottle of Snippers Rum. In my case, I chose the Aerstone Sea Cask 40% whisky. I let the whisky mature on these chips for 3 months... and look at the difference. The color has clearly become darker, there is definitely more wood on the nose, but also... smoke?? The taste is still good, but I think 3 months is really long enough. Tastier?... that's a tough one, but it was a great experiment nonetheless!

Yesterday I had the pleasure of tasting this Edradour 22, matured in Amarone casks. On the nose: plums, vanilla, red fruit, and a hint of spice. The palate also brings plumped prunes, tutti frutti, cherry, chocolate, and vanilla. A round, slightly syrupy whisky that is simply beautifully balanced.

If you like applesauce, caramel, tarte tatin, and cookie dough, then this Deanston Calvados cask finish 2007 is maybe a whisky for you. 57,4%! A whisky for the apple aficionado🍏!

Look at this strikingly colorful packaging! Inside is the new Amrut whisky Kumbha, an exclusive release for the Dutch market. And honestly, what better color could you ask for than orange—a color that truly connects people, especially as the Dutch national football team chases the World Cup title!
