‼️🚨NEW ARIA ALERT🚨‼️

No, she’s not perfect but for the first time filming this I don’t even mind ~ someone who I look up to recently told me that we shouldn’t strive for perfection, but rather progress.

Thank you @robinrice_at_rice @rachchao and all the phenomenal people who have supported me with this new repertoire!

Friends ~ I am so beyond privileged to be posting some clips of one of my favourite pieces of music I’ve had the opportunity to perform and work on!

If it’s not totally clear - I LOVE new music and contemporary opera. On February 1st 2026, I had the opportunity to sing the role of Woman in Dr. Karim Al-Zand’s world premiere of A Joint Interest at The Brockman Hall for Opera under the direction of Paul Curran and baton of Maestro Harth-Bedoya.

With permission of Dr. Al-Zand, I want to introduce my internet feed to the music I love most of all ~ music that’s uniquely contemporary and allowing for us to depict stories that are so relevant today, reflective of real people, and telling stories that can unite the world through beauty, realism and comedy! Because this opera is SO FUNNY!

It is a gift to work with living composers and composers and musicians who have and are paving the way for us changemakers to make an impact on the world.

With appreciation for my music community, I am so grateful to present some of my favourite clips from A Joint Interest!

Featuring @baritoneburrows as the Burglar @garrettgeno as Police Officer and the MOST INCREDIBLE MUSICIANS from the Rice Shepherd School of Music’s Chamber Orchestra!

Jonathan Leshnoff’s HaMelekh | Movement 1. Oso Adom
Performed March 29th 2026 with composer and pianist extraordinaire @ethresnik ✨🎶

Taken from Mr. Leshnoff’s website: HaMelech is a setting of two chapters from Heychalot Rabati, an ancient Jewish mystical text almost two thousand years old. This work was commissioned by the John Leopold and Martha Dellheim Endowment Fund at the Jewish Theological Seminary and by Hazzan Matthew Klein. The text gives instructions on navigating the different spaces that an initiate uses to reach G-d’s presence, each “space” being a different “room” (heychal). The first movement set by the composer, “Oso Adom,” expresses both the fear and trembling of entering the final room. The cantorial style of this first movement is drawn from the Eastern European style.

Ever grateful to have performed such beautiful music with my incredible colleagues ~ the opportunity to work with the next generation of composers, performers and music makers is never lost on me.

Thank you to all of my incredible friends and family beyond blood on this holy Rosh Hashana. I am grateful to make music with you and enact the remnants of Tikkun Olam, making music and communication accessible and making the world a better place. Thank you to @asher_lurie for programming music to heal the world, for @archwaygallery for your beautiful space and @riceshepherdschool. And ofcourse, thank you @ethresnik for being my partner in music!

HaMelekh was performed as part of Asher Lurie’s Sviatoslav Recital in 2026. This project was funded by the Sviatoslav Richter Fund for Music Outreach, awarded by Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music.

REMNANT I | Composer Asher Lurie
Premiered on March 29th 2026
(excerpt)

*Asher’s project was funded by the Sviatoslav Richter Fund for Music Outreach, awarded by Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music*

I wanted to post a little excerpt of one of my favourite pieces to sing and favourite pieces ever written ~ it feels extra special today as we are starting the Holy Holidays and are currently celebrating Rosh Hashana.

In this holy time, we are inscribed into the book of life for the upcoming year. This holy time is for family, community, forgiveness. A time to reflect upon one’s hopes and fears, and desire to build strength within our people. REMNANT 1 encompasses the Jewish spirit - it is a tapestry of survival, living, and reminder of the importance of language, life and community.

In this poem and musical story, the narrator leaves her homeland of Crimea to travel north through Ukraine to Russia. She searches for Karaite communities but instead encounters Ashkenazi Jewish women who speak Yiddish rather than Karaim, a Turkic language endangered today. Though surrounded by people who share her roots, she feels lost as they speak a different language and have a different culture.

Asher is truly an incredible composer, and this work was a joy to work through, and makes me so grateful to be Jewish.

In this holy time, I am reflect upon our privilege of being able to communicate through music and language and for Tikkun Olam and making the world a better place. I reflect and am grateful for my family that extends beyond blood, and for my colleagues - the incredible musicians who brought this music and story to life, and who create music to make the world a better place.

L’Shana Tova Umetukah ~ may everyone, regardless of background, be blessed for this upcoming year, and leave this world a better place than how we found it.

I am so immensely grateful for the opportunity that I had earlier this month! July 16th I made my Austrian debut at the Graz Musikverein singing with the AIMS festival orchestra under the phenomenal conductor, Maestra Marzio Conti.

Not only did I make my debut singing Eboli’s aria, O Don Fatale from Verdi’s Don Carlo (also my favourite repertoire in the world), I was surprised to have received my first European review!

My deepest appreciation to Walther Neumann who wrote that the concert was “…Led by the powerfully commanding mezzo-soprano Jessica Lyublinsky…”. Thank you so much. I hope I was able to transport the audience into the world of opera that consumes my existence.

My sincere gratitude to everyone involved in this, the orchestral musicians (who are the backbone and the reason singers are able to do this thing), coaches, teachers, all staff and music director, thank you!

My biggest thank you to Sarah Halley, Marzio Conti, Linda DiFiore, Piotr Wiesniewski, Wayne Wyman and everyone else involved in this process and behind the scenes!

I would also like to thank my incredible voice teacher Robin Rice @robinrice907 who has been my biggest supporter and who first heard me sing this aria. Thank you to Dolora Zajick @iydvzajick who was my first inspiration as a mezzo and my teacher who promised me that one day I would sing this role. I am forever grateful to the people who have supported me, every singer, teacher, coach and mentor who helped me pave the way with my voice. Thank you.

A three-week language immersion in Florence provided Shepherd’s second-year master’s voice students with an unforgettable educational experience, generously made possible by the Margaret C. Pack Language Institute for Singers.

Current graduate student Jessica Lyublinsky shared about the impact of the trip:

“Italian is not only the quintessential operatic language but has also been a fundamental part of my artistic training from the very start of my vocal journey. I remember being a teenager singing Italian songs and arias, not realizing that those would pave the way to my love for Verdi, Puccini, Rossini and the great and timeless opera composers we love today.

Listening to Italian spoken on the streets, in cafés, and in our classrooms often felt like listening to music itself, with vowels flowing seamlessly into one another in a way that no textbook can fully capture. Listening to the language reaffirmed why we create music: opera is an extension of the world we live in, the emotions we feel and the conversations we have in real life. What we heard was the legato of the language, the legato that so easily becomes music. We didn’t just study this language. We became part of it.

My favourite memories have to be walking up to the Ponte Vecchio, alongside the Arno river with my friends, as well as visiting the Uffizi Museum. I'm a huge history buff so spending 5 hours in that museum was time well spent. And walking through the Ponte Vecchio felt like walking through history - also realizing that by engaging in an artform like opera, we are part of that history, as well.

I also loved sharing my mornings with my best friends in this program, having our daily coffee breaks between classes and generally experiencing the vibe of Florence. We are so lucky to be students at The Shepherd School of Music!” by @dramaticoperadiva
