Hit two years in Dubai after leaving London in Feb 2024 and it left me reflecting on whether the move was worth it. When we decided to make the move, we had 2 and 3 year old toddlers. We left our parents, siblings, home and everything we knew for a fresh start. Our intention was ‘let’s give it a year’ and we first got a 1 year remote-work visa. After a year, we set up the business here and now we’re entering our third year. We’ve invested in so many different ways and have found friends & a community unlike any other. Our kids have learnt just so much and have developed to be two kids with eyes open to the world around them. Workwise, it has also been eye opening. Being somewhere that attitudes towards entrepreneurship is so positive and encouraging. You can get a phone number of a billionaire the first time you meet them, just because they want to help you with networking or connection. You can meet the royal family when going to the gym. There’s just so much to inspire you and there really is no ceiling. Nowhere is perfect - you choose your imperfect. There are always challenges and the biggest challenge is being so far from family. But then I think about my parents leaving their family and the opportunities they gained by doing the same. I hope to inspire anyone who is scared of trying something new. Weigh up the risks, take your precautions, save up, diversify your income, have a plan B and then go for it. 🤍 by @draminayonis

April 2026, the month my heart expanded and broke at the same time. The first week of April I welcomed new life, a new baby into our family. Then the second week of April, we said goodbye to our dad. 12 days apart. A hello and a goodbye. A first breath and a last breath. The hardest thing was missing his janazah (funeral). I was essentially stuck abroad, unable to travel to London unless I left my 12 day old behind. What would my dad do in this situation? He’d stay and do anything to look after & do right by his children. My dad didn’t need me there but our new baby needs me here, so, I stayed and spent most of the day on FaceTime. But, I believe in Allah’s wisdom through everything that happens. Whilst the timing seemed harsh, a new baby in the midst of everything else was really the most beautiful thing and a reminder of life’s fragility. Having a father who raised 5 of us in the best possible way meant I had a blueprint. He taught us to be strong, no matter what life throws at you, you do your best and never waiver in your faith. He taught us to trust in God’s plan always. Miss you & love you always 🤍 by @draminayonis

A week in my life as a woman on a mission 📸Starting to celebrate small wins a lot more - I’ve always struggled with appreciating the right now and i’m always thinking about the next big thing. But, being in the UAE has taught me to celebrate myself, especially as a woman.Women are celebrated so much here, for opening businesses, for being the first X in a particularly industry, for discovering something new, for groundbreaking research, for being a mother & just every little thing. I’m trying to find more of a balance and feel less guilt for taking time off when ‘I should be working’. That inner voice is a powerful thing. What are you struggling with that you’re working on? by @draminayonis

I did a PhD because I genuinely loved the subject. Nearly 10 years on, that original motivation looks both simpler and more complicated than it did at the time. What the process actually taught me had very little to do with my research topic. The real education was in sitting with uncertainty for months at a time and in learning to trust my own thinking when no one was telling me I was right. Professionally, it opened some doors, but not always the ones I’d imagined. Unexpectedly, a few paths became quietly harder because of it. The world doesn’t always know what to do with a doctorate outside academia and I had to learn to constantly translate myself. If someone came to me today, seriously considering a PhD, I wouldn’t discourage them, but I wouldn’t romanticise it either. I’d tell them to be honest about why they want it, because the reason matters more than they think.I spoke in more detail on YouTube, let me know your thoughts. 💭 by @draminayonis

Here are 5 tips for introducing technology to screen-free kids in the park ft @googlegemini ~ this can also be done with @chatgpt or @claudeai :1 / Start with their curiosity, not the screen - Wait until your child picks up a leaf, spots a bug, or asks “what’s that bird?” Then pull out your phone as a tool to answer their question, keeping them in the lead.2 / Snap the photo together - Let your child frame the shot or point the camera themselves. This keeps them physically engaged and makes the phone feel like a magnifying glass, not a distraction.3 / Read the answer aloud and put the phone away - Once you get the result, narrate it to them and pocket the device. “It’s a stag beetle, did you know they can lift 850 times their own weight?” The conversation continues without the screen.4 / Use it to spark the next adventure - Turn each answer into a follow-up mission. “The app says robins eat worms, wo should we try to find one?” The AI becomes a springboard for real-world exploration, not an endpoint.5 / Keep it occasional, not constant - Resist the urge to identify everything. Let most discoveries stay mysterious and save the phone for the one thing that really grabs them. This keeps it feeling special and preserves the magic of not knowing.#screenfreeactivities #screenfreekids #ipadkids #kidsactivites by @draminayonis

Dubai in the summer doesn’t have to be a mall to mall experience. There are so many indoor and outdoor experiences you can enjoy! Trust me, I’m neither a homebody or a mall lover so I’ve done my homework and here to report my findings :)⛸️ Location @sportsocietydxb @mamasandpapasme @citycentremirdif #dxblife #dubaisummer #dubaiwithkids by @draminayonis
