Indian wild ass (Equus hemionus khur), also known locally as the Khur or Indian Onager. This subspecies is native to Southern Asia and is primarily found in the Little Rann of Kutch, Gujarat, India, which is its last remaining stronghold and home to the Indian Wild Ass Sanctuary. They are well-adapted to surviving in extreme temperatures with little water and are among India's fastest mammals, capable of running up to 70-80 km/hr. Their coat is usually sandy, but varies from reddish-grey, fawn, to pale chestnut.
