I’m deeply honored to step into my role as President of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA). This moment is more than a title — it’s a promise to serve, listen, and help shape the future of our profession together.

Comment what you are most excited for! 💫

Our healthcare system is fractured. Practitioners are feeling it, clients are feeling it, and we have some real challenges ahead of us.

But I refuse to believe that we are powerless in this!

As we reflect on Hill Day, I want to remind our OT community that advocacy is not limited to the conversations happening with elected representatives. It is ALSO happening every day through the quality of care we provide.

When you center occupation, understand what matters to your client, and help someone return to meaningful participation in their life… THAT is our value. Those outcomes matter.

First, we must give ourselves credit for the knowledge, skill, and care we bring to each person!

Second, we MUST continue exploring new ways to strengthen our profession through reimagining our advocacy efforts while recognizing the power we already hold in our everyday practice.

I’ll be at our @aotainc Board meeting tomorrow, Friday, continuing these conversations about the challenges ahead and the work needed to move our Association and profession forward. Members are welcome to join and listen in on the dialogue Let’s keep it pushing together. 💜

To help us close out Hispanic Heritage Month, we are honored to share a special message from AOTA President Arameh Anvarizadeh, OTD, OTR/L, FAOTA.

Dr. Anvarizadeh reflects on many of the themes discussed through this year’s SOMOS OT project, including equity, accessibility, representation, and the power of storytelling. She shares AOTA’s commitment to supporting the Hispanic and Latine/x community through advocacy and leadership opportunities that help advance our profession. We are grateful for her encouragement to get involved professionally and to continue working together to build a profession that reflects and serves all communities. SOMOS OT 💙

Thank you, Dr. Anvarizadeh, for all the love and support, and helping us close out Hispanic Heritage Month!

*Share this post to your story, repost it, and/or tag a friend to help us spread the word and amplify our message.

Just trying to catch the light and take a cute car selfie by MYSELF… and somehow… boom…peek-a-boo. 😳

Motherhood will humble you quickly!

But somewhere in the photobombs and little faces in the background, I’m reminded that being a mom is STILL being me…authentically!

Even with the busy schedule, they’re always right there. Even the hubs! 🥹🫶🏽

Wouldn’t have it any other way ❤️

Are you an innovative or entrepreneurial OT practitioner?

This is for YOU!

@aotainc recently approved a new Community of Practice (CoP) just for us!!

The open house is on November 12th 7PM Eastern/4PM Pacific.

Everyone is welcome to come - you don’t have to be an AOTA member to join the Open House. (The ongoing monthly meetings are for AOTA members.)

This CoP connects members interested in innovative, entrepreneurial, emerging, and nontraditional occupational therapy practice and will provide opportunities for networking, mentorship, peer learning, resource sharing, member-led presentations and collaborative problem-solving.

It’s exciting to see what started with an idea, passion, and a shared vision become something real and supported by AOTA.

CoP co-facilitators:
@whole_life_healthy_ & @kristafrahmagency

Share this with your OT network, let’s pack the Zoom room! 🙌 by @drarameh

The Board is at WORK! 👏🏽👏🏽

Our @aotainc retreat was all about walking the talk. We have created a Board culture where sharing perspectives, challenging ideas, and aligning around where we’re going as an Association and profession is truly honored, respected, and welcomed.

As a leader, I literally thrive when alignment happens in this way — surrounded by others who have a desire to roll up their sleeves and demonstrate accountability with care!

We’re building and we’re doing it together. Engaging ourselves, engaging members, and making positive change forward! I truly am thankful for our Board! 💪🏽🫶🏽

Stronger Together… across state lines! 👏🏽👏🏽

Missouri. Nebraska. Iowa. Shared by a waterway! Three states coming together for OT and a model I would love to see replicated across the country!

There is power in crossing state lines and coalition-building. In sharing ideas, resources, and challenges. In recognizing that our collective impact becomes stronger when we give ourselves permission to work together.

At Tri-State, we explored how we harness our OT power through courage. How we build community beyond our own boundaries and strengthen our profession through collaboration.

This is what advocating and engaging together can look like. Three states did it. Why not more?

Up next- Prez Talk. Everyone is welcome tomorrow. We are conversing all about travel OT!

Upholding Humanity…

That was the heart of @ncotassociation ’s conference and the perfect way to kick off my fall travels.

If humanity is at the center of our profession, then how we come together matters. One of my Presidential priorities is strengthening the connection and collaboration between our national and state associations. We cannot advocate, engage our members, or move this profession forward in silos. We are stronger together! 👏🏽👏🏽

At NCOTA, we explored what that collective courage looks like in action! From grassroots engagement like “Bring a Buddy,” to strengthening membership, to simply showing up for one another and the communities we serve.

Upholding humanity takes all of us. Through occupation, courage, and community.

See you tomorrow, Tri-State! Let’s do it all again. 🫶🏽

Occupational therapy advocates raised their voices on Capitol Hill during AOTA Hill Day 2026! 🏛️📣

On behalf of USC Chan, @otacofca and @aotainc many of our students, led by faculty members Arameh Anvarizadeh and Samia Rafeedie, attended several meetings with staffers of US Senators and Representatives. This year’s advocacy focused on two important bills that AOTA is asking members of Congress to co-sponsor in order to improve access to occupational therapy services.

The Medicare Home Health Accessibility Act (H.R. 2013) would allow occupational therapy to be ordered as a stand-alone Medicare home health service when OT is the only skilled service that a beneficiary needs. Currently, OT must be ordered along with nursing, physical therapy or speech-language pathology at the start of care. H.R. 2013 would help more people access OT in order to prevent falls, manage chronic conditions, perform daily activities and remain safely at home.

The RECOVER Act (H.R. 8386) would repeal the Medicare Multiple Procedure Payment Reduction, a longstanding policy that reduces reimbursement whenever more than one therapy service or unit is provided in one day. In light of other Medicare payment changes, this H.R. 8386 would make rehabilitation services and beneficiaries’ access to care more sustainable.

Occupational therapists meet people where they are, help them overcome the challenges standing in their way, and give them the tools to get back to the people, work, and everyday moments that make life meaningful.

My perspective as an occupational therapist has guided me in my work as a public servant, reminding me that at the heart of every policy are people who deserve the opportunity to live with independence, dignity, and purpose. I am so proud to work alongside @aotainc to advocate for the profession and the patients we serve. by @drarameh

Where is Dr. A? 👀✈️

It always seems to be busy, but as we transition into fall, life feels fuller than ever! From teaching to keynotes and conferences, OT advocacy, daily AOTA Board business, ad hoc committee work—and that’s not even the half of it. 😂

Through it all, what I’m looking forward to most is being in community with OT practitioners, students, educators, and leaders across the country. I am excited to dialogue together and, more importantly, engage one another in how we continue to move our profession forward.

So, “Where is Dr. A?” is an invitation into the conversations shaping what comes next — our challenges, wins, initiatives, priorities, and the work ahead to strengthen our association, engage our membership, and advance our profession.

Looking forward to seeing you if you’re nearby! 🫶🏽

Kicking it off TODAY with NCOTA!!! 🙌🏽💙

And if you won’t be at one of these stops, you can still find me virtually at many other engagements happening this fall!
