Another owl :)
This time Barred! My fave next to Barn!

FIRST GOUACHE PAINTING !

Been really busy, but finally got around to painting & tried out some good quality gouache, which I’ve never used before.
Not my fave or best work, but alas!
First time messing around with a new type of paint !!! ^.^

Primary, 2026.
Watercolour on paper.

A quick piece I whipped up for a recent submission to an open call for art in a (somewhat) local gallery. The theme of the exhibit really called to me & is being curated by an artist friend!

When I was an art teacher it was more normal to wear stained pants (with paint and god knows what else), but this semester I’m teaching English & I feel I need to make it at least look more intentional, but I can still keep my Art Teacher flair. ⭐️💫🍎🎨 by @drawntina

Sifting through some work from the years, ranging from an old high school project to a Father’s Day card from last year, also featuring the monkey I painted Javi—the first artwork I ever made him! The linocut of our initials was one of the more recent for a scrapbook :)

Just finished my Art Teacher semester & am prepping to start my next semester in a week teaching English. I’ll definitely still be busy (!), but since I won’t have art at work anymore I’ll be sure to do as much as I can at home. by @drawntina

Hours of painting trimmed down to a smashing pumpkins song :)

My final year of art school, the question of “process versus product?” was drilled into us by a drawing prof, which invoked us to think about our favourite aspect of creation and what we value most in it. For years I think I valued the product above all; I wanted to make pretty art that I was proud of! But I also experienced burnout, tests of patience, and processes that I just didn’t enjoy. Art school can kill the joy of art sometimes when it’s stuff you don’t enjoy making. I’ve now found the process to be a big part of my future in making art. A beautiful work of art isn’t really worth it for me if I hate the process. I don’t like to feel like I’m fighting with the medium and gruelling over what I’m making. In turn, I’ve been really enjoying the process of watercolour since I started teaching it to high schoolers and understanding all I can do with it. I was never taught this medium in high school nor uni, so it’s been a self-taught process, but one in which I’ve been enjoying, and loving both the process and product. It’s kind of the opposite in terms of the process of acrylic painting, so it’s been an adjustment and takes more thinking, but I really enjoy both!

~

Some artists don’t show their process because they see value in gatekeeping it so that others can’t attempt to reproduce their work. I’m not really about that, in fact I love to see how others create so I can learn, and I think it’s cool for you guys to see what goes into it behind the scenes!

Randomly came across a sketchbook in my basement today that I forgot about from uni. Covid era, when classes were all online for a year & my painting prof made us make 40 tiny/micro paintings each semester (alongside 10+ bigger panel ones) - all the numbers you see are inches, with the smallest painting being 1x1 inch!! The couch was my first and favourite. I spent hours on it, albeit only 3 inches tall and wide; after that I decided I needed to be faster for the rest lol. Turkey vulture, watercolour & coloured pencil.

These kinda scared me growing up but I’ve learned a lot about them and their importance within our ecosystems and environments, as well as just cool things about how they find food and such. And despite how scary I always thought they looked, they’re harmless & purely scavengers, eating what’s already dead. I’ve been breaking down the biases I had against them due to their appearance prior, but I actually think they look quite cool now. Really enjoy seeing these guys roosting in trees together & flying above my car on my work commutes through forest and farm roads.

In terms of medium, I actually wanted to try to experiment with coloured pencil over watercolour because I follow pencil crayon artists with such beautifullll work and thought I could combine these two, but I wasn’t super happy with how this turned out. Idk. It happens!! I think the tooth of the watercolour paper was a big detriment. All part of the process. Anyway, I still like this guy and will be using coloured pencils again on more suitable paper. by @drawntina
