This year is filled with so many “lasts” and so many exciting “firsts” for Sasha. We could not be more proud of the human she has chosen to become. ❤️

It’s wild how much growth and change happens during those four years of high school. As a teenager, you don’t really see it happening—but as a parent, you get to watch it all unfold right in front of you. 🥹

$23 billion is sitting on unused gift cards. (Don’t worry—this isn’t actually about gift cards. 😂)

We were part of that problem until we finally went on our regularly scheduled Wednesday date—the one that always seems to get pushed aside for work or the kids’ schedules.

I was reminded why we created that standing date in the first place.

There is something special about intentionally dating your spouse. No talking about schedules, responsibilities or problems. Just reconnecting with the person you chose in the beginning—and continuing to discover who they are now.

Twelve years ago, as I was about to walk down the stairs to get married in the beautiful backyard of @mwallach and @swallachceo’s former home—which they so graciously opened to us and transformed into an amazing setting for our celebration—I asked my dad how he and my mom had built such a long, close marriage. One in which they still genuinely love, like and respect each other.

His answer was simple:

“I choose to fall in love with your mother each day.”

They’ve now been married for more than 50 years. I’ve revisited his answer many times, but on Wednesday, I understood my dad’s words differently than I did that day.

If we don’t keep getting to know our partners as they grow and change, we risk loving a version of them that no longer exists.

I’ve been a handful of different women over the past decade. I’m sure Steve has been several different men, too. Our lives are dynamic, and real connection requires us to remain curious about one another.

It takes effort to genuinely like—not merely love—the person beside you. It takes making time, asking questions and continuing to choose each other.

Thank you, @georgecarsonpr. I finally get it. 🥰🫶

And if you have a gift card sitting in a drawer, use it. “Someday” can be a random Wednesday.

Dreams are answered … but sometimes it takes time…my whole life I wished for people like this in my life. And one day, I woke up and the plan began to unfolded…. So.. As I was helping Sasha get ready for her junior prom… and I finally understand what everyone meant when they said, “It goes by fast.”
Back then, I thought—there’s no way.
Now I’m looking at a year and a half until she’s off to college, wondering how we got here so quickly.
