So unbelievably happy to FINALLY announce I have accepted the position of Color Guard Director at Langham Creek High School in CFISD!! It is not lost on me that I’m being handed a program with a legacy and standard of excellence, and I am so excited to be trusted to usher in this next chapter of the LCCG! Photo dump from an awesome week in Kentucky with an amazing guy! Visited with all members of my immediate family, went on some bourbon tours, saw @alyssiathecool for the first time in like four years, hung out with the Bluecoats for a weekend, met my new adoptees, visited Morehead (and grandma of course), and got to spread out on the plane back home. Twelve years ago, a woman came into my life as my Province Officer. The day I met her, I stayed in my Big’s room until nearly 2am just talking through life, sharing stories, talking drum corps and all things SAI. She then became my Region Officer as I transitioned into collegiate presidency. She stayed up talking with me at the convention pictured on how best to tackle that year. She was like that: always had an ear and advice for anybody who needed her, anytime anywhere.

I am so grateful to Carrie for giving me that foundation as a new initiate, a new leader in the fraternity, and for showing me that SAI is wherever you are. The sister I am now is every bit because of you.

Somehow, in the past 365 days, you’ve become my greatest comfort, my favorite person, and such a soft place to land after every hard day. Thank you for loving me so gently, making me laugh endlessly, and stepping so naturally into life with me — including becoming the best dad to Stella. 🐾

Today is a bittersweet day…..

Two years ago, I got a random text from @donnieperc asking if I’d be interested in potentially taking over a program in need of someone to care. I’m so thankful I said yes. Today, I take my last step out of the door as their director.

Over the last two years, this program has continued to make school history: largest guard, first JV guard, highest scoring in 40 years. But more importantly, we laughed. HARD. We made memories, we pushed each other, and we grew as people. Every step I take in my career from here, these kids will have influenced and pushed me to get there. They will always be MY KIDS, and I am endlessly proud of them.

To my kids, thank you for allowing me to push you, even through the days where you really did not want to color guard. Know that all of my harsh words and encouragement came from a place of love and trust in your potential. Every single one of you will go far in whatever you want to do in life!

To my fellow directors, Donnie, @krohshey, @nexttimeintime, and @j_sned: thank you for the honor of teaching next to you the last two years. Thank you for being mentors in “how to Texas,” and never shying away from my big ideas for this program. Every program is bigger than one person, and y’all made it worth coming to work every day!

I am extremely proud of all of my kids, but this show has been near and dear to my heart for so very long. I started designing it in my head back in 2019–when loss wasn’t really a thing I’d endured yet. But since losing my grandparents, it had taken on a new sentimentality in my “playlist” of shows to do in my career.

“Without You” tells the story of my experience watching my grandparents’ battle with cancer. I was there for both of their “last good days” and saw the color drain day by day as they lost that battle. It is something I do not wish on anyone. Telling this story—designing this show, creating all the details—healed something in me that did not even know was there. These kids held this story with so much care and respect, and I’m so honored to be their director. #thecreekisrising #forgrandma #fornana #forgrandpa #healingthroughart by @drbgiles

A picture 4 years in the making and she is just loving life right now. Stella has not had *her own* backyard since we moved out of Michigan, and I legit cried seeing her run around HER yard the first time. She always loved taking naps in the sun when she was a puppy, and I’m so unbelievably happy to be able to give her that little bit of happiness back to her life 🥰 #formerapartmentdog #rescuedogsofinstagram by @drbgiles
