happy 100 citations to our baby #SocialWorkSoWhite 🥳🙌🏽

we wrote this as doc students in the midst of social work's "reckoning" with its history in racist practices. we wanted to make the point that social work is not new to harm and has been running a colonizer playbook from the very beginning.

annnnd here we are four years later, after the anti-racism wave has ended, DEI backlash is all too real, and the profession has yet to condemn Israhell.. perhaps its time for a part two? 🤔 by @drblackdeer

This is not a space for racial fraud debates! This lady claimed to be from my nation, and was not. Then later changed her story to be Cherokee - again, she is not. I don't care for Pretendian Hunters, and I am not pals with any of those folks. I just can't stand folks platforming essentially a wannabe Native Rachel Dolezal. Its a slap in the face to folks actually doing the work for their people.

Obvi this is not a comprehensive list. The books suggested are similar in the goals set out by ole girl so she's easy to replace, lifts right off the shelf. And if you're a separate the art from the artist person, kindly see yourself out.

Everyone else, you're welcome to add your favorite Indigenous authors, bookish folks, bookstores, etc in the comments below: 🤗

Lets support actual Indigenous folks year round. And when we know better, we can do better!

I am a descendant of a boarding school survivor. A trauma my Grandma Myrtle carried her entire life. Seeing her love on the next generation was so healing. She loved her great grands.

Today is a day of mourning. No amount of orange shirts takes this deep seeded pain away. Especially when our relatives have journeyed on.

To fellow Indigenous Relatives, take all the time you need. Even beyond today. This isn't just a one and done day for us. Its our ancestors, our kin, and our future generations that we are healing for. May Creator bring us comfort and protection.
