J'ai un peu tendance à ne faire péter que les gros blockbusters à l'opera, mais bon, y a pas que Puccini ou Wagner dans la vie.
Cette fois-ci je suis donc aller voir Roméo et Juliette de #gounod à @lamonnaie.demunt
Sans aller jusqu'à à parler de minimalisme la mise en scène était sensiblement plus sobre que ce que j'ai pu voir ces derniers temps mais quelques tableaux sont vraiment beau et honiriques. Je pense au "ballet" du lit de Juliette après qu'elle ait bu le poison notamment.
J'ai aussi apprécié le petit clin d'oeil des figurants du bal déguisés en personnages des autres pièces de Shakespeare.
Roméo, avec son gros accent espagnol fait un peu kéké par moment si je suis honnête. Rien à dire sur Juliette par contre, elle envoie.

Je suis fan de ces gars depuis à peu près 30 ans. Depuis j'ai eu la chance non seulement de les rencontrer, mais aussi de devenir leur collègue. Et c'est toujours aussi culte!
Aujourd'hui c'était l'avant première du dernier #paniqueauvillage au #cinemanova

Food festival in brussels... So obviously!
Started with tacos cause #tacosislife but they got in my belly before I took a pic.
And then I saw there was an Argentine #asado ... That was a big boy plate!
I topped it all off with a pretty good matcha with coconut milk and probably the best cookie in the world. No seriously, that thing was insane. by @drboul

L'autre jour, avec les cousins on est allé tester @chez_les_copains_nivelles et c'était plutôt pas mal du tout.
Si je veux faire le difficile, les pâtes auraient pu être un peu plus al dente et à titre personnel je trouvais que ça manquait un peu d'assaisonnement mais bon c'est pour ça que y a du sel et du poivre à table après tout.
J'ai pris les pâtes pistache / mortadelle / burrata. J'ai souvent pris ce combo en pizza mais en pâte c'était la première fois. Et bon, ben ça marche aussi ici.
On retiendra également de la visite une excellente pan-cota ultra crémeuse avec un très bon coulis de framboises que j'ai oublié de photographier parce que #lifehappens et tout ça dans des portions vraiment généreuses.
Le cadre est chaleureux, la vue sur la collégiale plutôt chouette et le personnel de salle tip top.

Avec un Negroni et les boissons j'en ai eu pour un chouïa plus que 50€.

Bref, si vous êtes du côté de Nivelles c'est une adresse franchement sympa by @drboul

I love a good Z-movie as much as any film nerd out there but somehow I'd never seen this one.
And boy is it bad.
In all fairness while Canon Groups (the producers) did give us a handful or two of cult classics, they are not exactly known for high quality cinema. And they truly butchered that one. The story is corny as hell (or whatever's left of it cause the writers are actually good) the pacing is off, the big villain, Nuclear Man, is just silly, and the fight scenes are some of the worst you'll ever seen.
There's also a sort of love triangle that doesn't really go anywhere. Special mention to the UN that looks like a temu version of the small world ride at Disneyland. I suppose there must be comedic elements somewhere but i couldn't find them. Ah and the special effect... Yeah it's bad.

Perfect heatwave read

Rarely if ever do I re-read a book, but this one's been lingering in a corner of my mind not unlike floaters since I first read it in @rileydog95 's American Lit class during my first year long summer on South G street.
Some forty years after Soto's and 230 miles further south, my summer life was the taste of 1 dollar bean tacos and and breakfast tamales from the neighbor, the chlorine scented sweat from all those hours at the pool. The neighbors sipping xx on their front yards, their cheap transistors blasting mariachi music when I would've killed for sleep in. And strawberry fields as far as the eye can see.

The places we'd originally looked up for our little gent getaway were closed or all booked up so we rather randomly stumbled upon @duel.gent and what a great spot this turned out to be.

Duel is a grill house with a mix of belgian bistro and steakhouse classics but also a more daring menu with offal and less usual cuts.
I started with sweetbread croquettes. I personally could've done with a couple extra cranks of the pepper mill but it was really good and the crunch was perfect.
For the main I went with their spectacular signature Goedendag" dish of "impaled" steak flambeed with Calvados. Served with the mandatory (and really good) fries, a simple salad and an assortment of delicious homemade sauces, this was a true show stopper. I've rarely had meat cooked this well.
Service was maybe a touch on the slow side, but we had time and mom and daughter staff were super friendly.
I really enjoyed being invited to the kitchen to watch the flambeing of the meat.

These two will set you back 55€ à la carte but they do have cheaper lunch and dinner menu options. by @drboul
