The art of capturing essence. Smile repositioning with hand-made feldspathic porcelain veneers; the Enamelon technique. This is the evolution of aesthetic dentistry: respecting biology and function without compromising on wow factor and superior aesthetics. The biggest challenge for this case was not just preserving the original smile charm but also maturing the smile without aging it. We were able to go from playful to powerfully captivating without sacrificing the youthful feel of the smile. Someone things extend well beyond what you are able to teach in a course. The evolution of aesthetic dentistry: the Enamelon technique with my talented partner @ricardo_malise. This before and after was a case that we inserted live at our recent Evolve course in St. Petersburg, Florida. Using both our hand-made and modified hand made approaches we are able to translate the vision a patient has for their smile into something that borrows elements of nature to create something more real than reality itself. This is the concept of capturing and redefining the essence of a smile. As many people were able to witness these cases extend well beyond amazing lab made wax ups and step into uncharted artistic territory where the vision is executed on each step of the process: communication, planing, designing, prepping, custom temporization, and collaborative interpretation of the vision. There is a small group of practitioners that can appreciate this level of attention to detail and execution but it is undeniable what the eyes see; flow, harmony, and balance. Procedures: Flapless clinical crown lengthening to reposition the smile into the face, Gingivectomy, and gingivalolasty. Whitening and hand-made feldspathic porcelain veneers using our unique Enamelon protocols. Unbelievable ceramics by my brother @ricardo_malise . Unbelievable perfection captured in a single still image. Absolutely stunning before-and-after, highlighting how a shared vision is executed from idea to insertion. This revision case had so many challenges and so many characteristics that I’m absolutely in love with, and I could speak about them for days. This was a very fun collaboration that came during a very transcendent personal transformation for me and my creative process. This case highlights the limitless potential of creativity when eliminating the desire to control. A very pivotal trip to the Van Gogh exhibit inspired me in many ways. 1. The idea to create art more real than reality itself was born. 2. Creativity, based on energetic exchange and trust that eliminates the need to control, creates an environment to make masterpieces. It goes without saying that we were able to capture the essence of the smile. But more importantly, we gained inspiration from the original teeth themselves and carried unique features of the existing smile into the handmade telepathic enamelons. The microfractures, or craze lines, the texture, the finish, the opalescence, and the vitality were all palpable features carried over into the final restoration. What I loved most was the integration of the pink-white interface and how the restorations emerge seamlessly from the tissue. Like all of our cases, we were able to reimagine the smile frame and treat the aging reverse smile, creating a better flow and smile harmony that worked not only to eliminate aesthetic stress, but also to breathe youth into the smile and face itself. You cannot create something original while asking permission to be yourself. Creative vulnerability is letting the work reveal you. It takes conviction to trust your vision and humility to let it evolve. Some of my greatest inspiration lives outside dentistry. I immerse myself in nature, watch light move across water, study the textures and shadows of mountains, and let music take me somewhere language cannot. Those experiences come back into the work. When my mind is quiet, my body is present, and my soul is moved, I see differently. I create differently. What once felt like a limit becomes a possibility. Our Enamelon philosophy lives in that awareness: preserve what nature already does beautifully, then create in conversation with it. Through hand-made porcelain, we explore light, texture, and contour to create smiles that belong to the face—not faces forced to accommodate a smile. I want you to feel the person before you notice the dentistry. My purpose is undeniable. My vision is unfinished. Consistency does not mean repeating yourself. It means remaining grounded in your principles while allowing your perspective to expand. Being open enough to discover something new without losing the intention that makes the work yours. That is what we are committed to protecting as a team: the trust to explore, the discipline to refine, and the freedom to create without putting a ceiling on our capacity. Our love for the craft has to be greater than our attachment to what we already know. The generational impact I’m working toward goes beyond the smiles we create. Before and after smile maxing with our hand-made feldspathic porcelain veneers. What makes this case super special is our Enamelon technique and unique approach to optimizing aesthetic outcomes. The Traditional approach to “high-end” aesthetics has focused on speed and predictable outcomes, particularly when it comes to color. However, there are so many optical properties of teeth that contribute to creating outcomes that honor nature without compromising on wow factor. Have you ever noticed veneers that look “nice” but something about them felt round? Bulky? A bit too thick, dense or slightly opaque? I believe that this is the result of removing natural tooth structure, to replace it with an artificial material attempting to “recreate nature”. This flow has served our industry well for many years and most patients and dentist alike struggle with seeing the nuances of what makes this approach feel “not quite it.” I practiced this way in the beginning of my career too, until we created a new approach that focused on balancing two things: restorative room and preservation of tooth structure. To blend the worlds, we focused on allowing the natural tooth to do what it does best: be nature, and our restorations to simply interact with nature in a way that preserves the vitality and optical properties of teeth. What we found is that it was disingenuous to attempt to simply copy nature. But we decided to create something more real than reality itself. And the idea of believability was born. Smiles that reflect light like natural teeth. Smiles with contours, textures, AND FINISHES, that honor natural teeth. And using colors that don’t exist naturally in nature. It took many years to dial in the process, but over time, we have been able to create unique looking veneers that are extremely vital looking, ultra thin, and crafted with restraint to prevent the dense artificial “look”. It has been an honor working with the most talented creators in the world to refine our ideas. Many hours, huge financial investments and energy to accomplish one goal. Limitless creative capacity.
