when softball first reached out to me back in december of last year, one of the first questions i asked the national teams director was what the culture of the organization was like.

his response: family.

over these last 8 months, i found that to be exactly true. this team, it’s coaching staff, support staff, and national office have truly been like family; sometimes more of a dysfunctional and crazy family, and sometimes would drive each other up a wall, but a family nonetheless. though it was not the outcome we wanted or hoped for, i can’t help but be so proud of what this group accomplished with all the obstacles that stood in their way and still came out as olympic silver medalists.

i never expected to get this far or even be here in tokyo with this group. i was scheduled for and originally committed to one, maybe two training camps. but as time went on and to my surprise, softball fought hard to bring me along the whole way and i will be forever grateful for the opportunity.

thank you USA softball for everything you’ve been to me and done for me. after 22,203 miles flown on a plane, 1120 miles on a bus, 124 nights in a hotel, 67 covid tests taken, countless early mornings and even more late nights, this girl is officially ready to head home and hug that sweet little boy waiting for me. taken in The Olympics Blog by @drcharissadayao

10 years ago, i met a boy who seemed a bit cranky at first but turned out to be really funny. he was always super sweet and someone i enjoyed working with but thought nothing of it because i was in a relationship.

fast forward to today, i never ever expected that the same boy from 10 years ago would not only so intentionally pursue my heart but my baby’s heart as well. i never thought i could allow my heart to really open up to another man after the heartbreak and trauma of my previous marriage but God said lol and had a completely different plan. he’s gentle, patient, SO loving, protective, and just the most thoughtful human. he has healed things in both me and noah simply by being him and i could not have dreamed up anything or anyone better.

Had a great time in Anaheim, California delivering my #trainsmarterandharder workshop over the last 2 days. It’s always great to try and solve some of the really complex challenges that come with year round sports, communication across departments & with front office staff and rehabbing troublesome injuries.

growing up, my mom told me over and over again that God gives us the best if we’re patient and trust in His plan. i didn’t understand the breadth of what she meant until now. remembering the years of hard fought healing, rebuilding my life from nothing, and now looking around and seeing the blessing of a life i’m so proud of with a man who loves us so well always brings me to tears. forever grateful for this life and this journey. by @drcharissadayao
