Although the immune system will eventually recognize and fight this virus, the spread of Molluscum can go on for years and can be unsightly so it’s my personal opinion that it’s best to treat them. I want to highlight how gentle this curettage should be performed so as not to leave bad scars - I have seen scars from overly aggressive curettage. Besides gentle curettage another top in office treatment is called cantharidin in which a beetle juice is applied to the spots leading to a blister at the site of the Molluscum.

Cryosurgery (freezing) is a less precise, more painful and more likely to scar treatment that is sometimes done. Unfortunately topical products that derms will recommend for at home use like benzoyl peroxide, tretinoin/differin, salicylic acid seem to simply irritate the skin and aren’t very successful.

Molluscum is a very common pediatric virus seen in all areas of the skin. It is also considered an STD in adults when found in the genital region.

#ad I have personally found a face cream with estriol improves the hydration of my skin and allows me to tolerate my retinoid close to daily. The darkening of the skin by UV rays may make the red acne marks appear better, but tanning the skin will increase hyperpigmentation meaning the marks will darken and take longer to heal.

The drying effect of UV rays can lead to oil gland stimulation and increase sebum production - ie more clogged pores and acne.

Not to mention, UV rays lead to photoaging - more wrinkles and sun spots over time.

Seborrheic dermatitis = inflammation + yeast. Steroid creams and antifungal creams can work. It’s chronic so will require continued use of the antifungal cream with steroid creams used less frequently and only as needed.

Onycholysis is a common condition of the nails when the nail plate detaches from the nail bed. One risk factor is someone who does a lot of work with their hands particularly in water - ie “wet work.”

The best chance for reattachment of the nail plate is to keep the nails short and wear gloves when doing household chores like washing dishes or working with cleaning supplies.

There are other causes of onycholysis including psoriasis and trauma.

The embryo develops breast/nipple tissue that runs from the armpit down to the chest and then the abdomen following a linear path. All of this tissue disappears in development leaving only the breast tissue. Sometimes a little remnant can be found following this line called the Embryonic Milk Line. It’s called an accessory nipple and is benign. If a patient wants it removed for aesthetic reasons, it can be done by a small surgery with stitches in place and will leave a small scar.
