We often view the holidays as a time of joy, abundance, family and tradition, but for those watching a parent experience cognitive decline, they can feel disorienting and heavy.

If you feel like you’re grieving a parent who is still sitting across the table from you, you're not alone. You are experiencing Ambiguous Loss.

This season, try to: ✨ Embrace "Both/And" thinking. ✨ Simplify traditions to focus on sensory connection. ✨ Name and acknowledge your grief ✨ Extend grace to yourself and others.

Read the full blog post at the link in my bio for more on navigating the "long goodbye." 🤍

Are you looking forward to the holidays but anxious about experiencing conflict tension with loved ones, particularly those with conflicting world views? Do you feel like you walk on eggshells with relatives and struggle to set appropriate boundaries? You are not alone! In partnership with @theroottherapynyc I am proud to offer a one hour virtual workshop this Thursday 11/20 and again on Thursday 12/11 on surviving the holidays with family. This workshop offers a supportive, non-clinical space to explore these experiences through mindful discussion and guided reflection. In this session, we will address ways to strengthen communication with loved ones, resolve conflict, establish and enforce healthy boundaries, and gain practical tools to stay grounded and aligned with your values throughout the holiday season. Please see attached flyer for registration details, or click on link in bio. by @drdanielsieber

I love this; especially if it’s true! It resonates so much with me, as it relates to the way I practice therapy. Psychotherapy is often an intense and productive process, but one that also leaves room for play, lightheartedness, and absurdity! This classic Seinfeld scenario reflects the way I work in large part. Let me explain: I don’t recommend modeling one’s life after George Costanza, but strongly believe that the greatest changes we make come from taking inspired and sometimes unorthodox actions which in turn help us gain greater insights into our lives and the way we relate to others. by @drdanielsieber
