Every year, we ask New Yorkers a simple but ambitious question: “What’s your big idea to make this city even better?” The David Prize gives five of them $200,000 of no-strings-attached funding to help turn their vision into a reality.

Nearly a year since opening our last Open Call, we’re thrilled to introduce five New Yorkers who belong on your radar. They’re building a better New York through housing, civics, sustainability, education and public health, and they were doing the work long before anyone handed them a check.

🗽 Aaliyah Duah is a Brooklyn-born finance guru teaching New York’s youngest how to make, save, and invest money. Through her company Financial Revolutionn, Aaliyah brings relatable financial education to public school students across the boroughs. Think: learning stocks through Roblox and investing through Jordan sneakers.

🗽Dave Ores is a Lower East Side doctor running a one-man practice on the premise that all New Yorkers deserve access to healthcare. Whether at his free medical booth at Tompkins Square Park or his ‘Pay What You Can Wednesdays’ program, Dr. Dave is bringing healthcare to every New Yorker at the lowest possible cost.

🗽 Isaac Adlerstein is a nonprofit leader helping turn more of NYC’s houses of worship into nightly shelters for New Yorkers experiencing homelessness. He’s created a model at Broadway Community, a one-stop shelter located in the basement of the Broadway Presbyterian Church, where Isaac turns crisis into stability.

🗽 Oded Oren is a public-defender-turned-tech-founder holding New York’s courts and judges accountable to the New Yorkers they serve. Through his organization Scrutinize, New York now has its first and only judicial transparency organization that helps New Yorkers use data to understand a judge’s record, compare judges, and draw their own conclusions.

🗽Regina Carter is a NYCHA Tenant Association President rerouting excess furniture to NYC residents who need it most. Her organization Repurposed Life has distributed over half a million pounds of furniture headed to the landfills to low-income New Yorkers through free pop-ups and drop o taken in New York City by @drdavemd
