POSTS STORIES REELS

I’ve stopped making monthly TBRs like the first of the month magically wipes my currently-reading shelf clean 🍂

So October is built around 4 new worlds + 4 books already in progress.

New this month:
✨ The Once and Future Witches
🌲 Don’t Let the Forest In
🔥 The Incandescent
📚 one ARC

And because I apparently need rules for myself, I also made a bonus level: three extra books that stay locked until I clear the main plan. 🔒

The goal is simple: keep the excitement of new books without abandoning everything I already wanted to finish.

Do you plan your month around new reads or current reads?

Some of you already know me, but this account is shifting into something a little more specific 📚

I’m Dre, and I read a little sideways — usually toward danmei, light novels, fantasy, sci-fi, long series, political intrigue, great narration, and books that give me a lot to think about.

So this space is becoming less “general personal account” and more the place where I share the books worth pulling from the stacks: recs, deep dives, and reading life as it actually happens.

If you’ve been here a while, welcome to the new chapter. If you’re new here, welcome to the weirder shelves ✨

What kind of book are you almost guaranteed to pick up?

Danmei-curious? 📚✨

My first danmei was Heaven Official’s Blessing, and I read it while the English translations were still being released. I felt the 800 years of waiting in my soul 💀

My approach to recommendations? Start with the story beats you already love.

❤️ Epic devotion and complicated relationships

⚔️ Political intrigue and power couples

🌙 Supernatural mysteries and emotional stakes

✨ Fantasy worlds you can completely lose yourself in

Four stories, four different reasons to fall into danmei.

There’s no single right starting point, and you don’t have to begin with the shortest or simplest series.

Which story hook would pull you in first?

Mood reader? Not exactly. I’m more of a ✨strategic✨ reader. 😂

My reading choices usually depend on what I’m doing, rather than what I’m in the mood for.

🎧 Audiobooks: Commutes, sewing, and chores.

📱 Ebooks: Bedtime reading and those little pockets of downtime.

📖 Physical books: When I can actually sit down and give a book my full attention.

My husband says I just like starting new books instead of finishing them. Which… isn’t entirely wrong. 😅

October reading progress:
✅ 3 books finished
📚 6 still in rotation

Different books for different moments. It works for me!

Are you a mood reader, a one-book-at-a-time reader, or someone who always has a few going?

My Audible bookmarks didn’t save, so here’s what stayed with me instead. 🎧

✨ Juniper’s relationship with love, success, and validation hit surprisingly close to home.

✨ John Green’s existential writing found its way into the story through Andy Warhol, and I loved how accessible those moments felt.

💕 And Juniper and Kai? Such a quietly persistent, believable romance.

A story I connected with in more ways than I expected.

Have you ever recognized a little of yourself in a character?

A little reading, a little sewing, and a thoughtful surprise from my husband. 💕

Nothing particularly extraordinary, just the small moments that made an ordinary week feel special. A little reminder to appreciate the life happening between all the big things.

Okay so I saw @lost.supernova share this and knew I had to also join in on @danmei_dani ‘s challenge! Here’s my name breakdown 💖💖

(And yes I know e-Ming is a spiritual weapon but he deserves so much love and attention too)

September was a really solid reading month ✨

• After the Disabled God of War Became My Concubine — flew through the first three volumes. Loved the obliviously-idiots-in-love power couple dynamic, and the imperial court maneuvering stayed compelling without requiring a character map 🗺️

• Heretics of Dune — politics and plots within plots within plots. I’m still thinking about how this book takes thousand-year-old consequences and turns political machinations into something almost religious.

A few longer reads are coming with me into October, but I’m very happy with where September took me.

What book are you still thinking about?

My 54321 Book challenge! I saw this on another platform and loved the idea of it. Figured this gives a good opportunity to show a little more about what I read ☺️💖

Would any of these books make your list? 🤔

As the ‘Ber months arrive, I’m shifting attention back to one of my constant loves: books

What I’ve always loved about John Green’s fiction is how deeply human his characters feel—smart, messy, frustrating, vulnerable, and constantly trying to understand themselves and each other.

That’s what has me so curious about John’s upcoming book (and first fiction book in a long time), Hollywood, Ending. It’ll be his first adult novel, but from the first two audiobooks chapters Penguin shared on YouTube, that same emotional honesty already feels intact.

I’ll be listening to the dual-narration audiobook, and I’m very ready to see where this one goes. 💛

Which John Green book has stayed with you the longest?

This beauty arrived today! For yet another year, I won’t be at GenCon BUT at least I have some great material to read 🤩
