The first trailer for Whalefall as emerged, the upcoming man-swallowed-by-a-whale survival drama, and it’s a breathtaker.The film is described as The Martian meets 127 Hours, centering on a scuba diver in search of his deceased father’s remains who gets swallowed by an 80-foot, 60-ton sperm whale and has only one hour to escape before his oxygen runs out. Austin Abrams (Weapons, Resident Evil) stars with Brian Duffield directing. Whalefall is based on the novel of the same name by Daniel Kraus.20th Century has dated the movie for October 16, 2026. In a new interview with Triple J, Backrooms filmmaker Kane Parsons offered some insight into how he approaches storytelling, and his comments may reveal more than he intended about where Backrooms is headed next.“That’s the way I like to start every project,” Parsons explained. “Usually I get very attached to an ending, or the most extreme version of a concept, and then the project becomes trying to reverse-engineer from that point to find a good setup for it.”According to Parsons, that philosophy was central to the development of Backrooms.“There’s a very specific roadmap for this series, this serialized piece.
