Four of the six young great apes remain in care as efforts continue to support their recovery. 🙏❤️‍🩹 As WAN previously reported, the young great apes were among 48 wild animals rescued on August 25, when officers from the Nigeria Customs Service’s Kano/Jigawa Area Command intercepted a vehicle carrying the animals along the Kano–Daura Road. Three suspects were arrested during the operation, known as Operation Traverse. The surviving young apes require specialized care after being taken from the wild and trafficked for profit. Their recovery involves veterinary support, appropriate nutrition, and experienced caregivers addressing their physical and emotional needs. 🙏 In an update, The Aspinall Wildlife Trust stated: “The Aspinall Wildlife Trust, alongside Focused Conservation and working with Nigerian Customs, is committed to giving these animals the best possible future - with the ultimate goal of returning them to the wild when it is safe and possible to do so.” WAN and Peace 4 Animals mourn the heartbreaking loss of Maraya and Shuka and are grateful to everyone working to protect and care for the surviving young #gorilla and chimpanzees. Credit • @jeanesenadias Ontem estive na feira da Fazenda Botafogo/Rj e me deparei com uma cena que não consigo simplesmente esquecer. Enquanto passava pela feira, vi dezenas de pintinhos, todos filhotes e coloridos: amarelos, azuis, verdes, lilases. Eram vendidos por apenas dois reais cada. Havia muitas pessoas ao redor, comprando aqueles pequenos animais, muitas vezes para presentear crianças. Mas, quando me aproximei, enxerguei além daquilo que parecia apenas uma venda de animais. O calor chegava a 40 graus. Os pintinhos estavam amontoados, sem espaço, sem condições adequadas, aparentemente sem água e sem alimento. Alguns estavam desesperados, tentando se movimentar entre as grades das gaiolas, com o pescoço preso. E havia pintinhos mortos naquele mesmo lugar. Aquela imagem me revoltou profundamente. O que mais me entristece é perceber que ainda existem pessoas que compram animais dessa forma sem enxergar o sofrimento que está diante dos próprios olhos. Um animal não é brinquedo, não é lembrancinha e não é presente descartável para uma criança. É uma vida. Quando um animal é colocado em uma situação de calor extremo, confinamento, falta de água, falta de alimento e sofrimento, não estamos diante de uma simples mercadoria. Estamos diante de uma situação que precisa ser denunciada e combatida. É muito triste ver isso. Muito triste perceber que, em tantos lugares, animais continuam sofrendo e morrendo enquanto as pessoas passam, olham e seguem adiante. Eu não quero me acostumar com isso. Não quero olhar para uma cena dessas e fingir que é normal. Precisamos mudar essa história. Precisamos cobrar fiscalização, responsabilidade e respeito pelos animais. Precisamos impedir que esse sofrimento continue acontecendo, principalmente nas feiras, onde situações como essa ainda podem ser encontradas. Enquanto houver um animal sofrendo e pessoas tratando uma vida como mercadoria descartável, ainda haverá muito a ser feito. Eu vi. Eu senti. E não quero ficar em silêncio. by @dreamerdaddy
