Pride. 🏳️‍⚧️✨

A massive part of Pride, and my own journey, has been tied to all the wonderful queer lamplighters in my personal life and globally. They are the people who showed up as their authentic selves and showed me I could do the same—whether through their books, or simply through their personal existence.

If you’ve been here a while, you know I have never shared my face on this account. In the beginning, it was somewhat conscious; I felt like I was just posting for myself, I didn’t feel comfortable in my body, and I didn't think it was relevant to my book reviews.

But this Pride, I’ve been doing a lot of reflecting. I’m realizing that through a lot of deep emotional and body work (and thank you, T), I am finally starting to feel comfortable in my own body and existence.

So, I wanted to show my face. I wanted to share my trans, disabled self with the world.

I love reading. Writing is in my blood, too—which sometimes makes it feel like I’m shaving off parts of my soul. I run from it sometimes, but I’m trying to do more of it, and to share more of it here.

I’m not sure if I’m up for a full profile picture switch just yet, or if it even needs to change. But today, I’m showing my light. My hope is to be a lamplighter on someone else’s path who happens to stop by.

So, hi. 👋📚
I’m Jude. I’m 31.
I am a trans, queer, disabled, and Jewish reader, writer, and MLIS student.

I really want to start sharing more of my writing, as well as insights from the different articles and library science courses I’m learning from. Would you be interested in seeing more of that side of things here? 👇

Let me know in the comments. Happy Pride, everyone. 🩵🩷🤍🤎🖤❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

Goals & Holes ARC/gifted

This review is so late, life has been way too much and I feel so bad as I was given an ARC in exchange for a review (but fully my thoughts) and was so excited about it,and now a second book in the series is already out-but better late then never I hope.
I loved this book so much! I love horses so much and feel like beyond cowboys there aren't as many queer books and MM romances especially that exist in the equestrian world. Of course Chispa the horse was my favorite but I enjoyed both of the characters and how they each had complex stories. I love the caretaking trope and when its feeding his horse I mean just *swoon*. I loved the close friends who have their backs and each character struggling but also taking the steps forward to actually live the life they want both independantly and together. Jem Wendel has become an author I can't wait to read more of and especially the second book in this series. Have you read this book? Drop any reccs for other equestrian queer books please. Puckboys series rankings.
I've been MIA on thinking through and posting my thoughts on here and nothing like finishing a the last book in a series to come back. This series is so large it took two graphics with my clumsy canva skills and it sort of felt like two eras of reading the series as well. That somewhat makes sense as the series came out over four years and they were semi unhinged in my world. I really enjoyed some of the characters and plots(Oskar and Lane,& Conner and Parker have my heart in a chokehold;) and some took me way too long to get through and I didnt connect to. I feel like they are one of the "OG" queer hockey book series especially for me. I did enjoy them being co-written and I feel like the multiple p.o.vs are done well and there are great disticnt voices. I just felt that some of the storylines felt flat with one aspect of the character sometimes being the only angle to them. There are lots of shenanigans and fun,I will say there isnt a whole lot of diversity in skin tone, abilities,or identities which I feel could have given the series more depth. Have you read the series? What is your ranking? I'm hockeyed out now but what is another interconnected standalone series you enjoyed??

I'm coming in just under the wire for my May-Mental health reccs been busy with mostly good things and recovering from surgery but I wanted to share some books that I have found to be incredibly helpful in my personal life, I am currently reading Bold.Black. & Becoming by Dr. Abeena Berry its very well written and I'm learning a lot.I realized while putting this list together that I have read a lot of books about Mental Health and ones with tools to help people. Which don't get me wrong is great I reccomend each of these(and more of Faith Harpers i just didnt want to do a full list of them),but I also realized a hole in my non-fiction reads are more personal stories and of mental struggles that aren't anxiety and depression which is more of what I have struggled with and therefor ended up reading about. So please drop all your reccs below,I also kept this more siloed and didnt bring books focused on neurodiverce as it sits in another area in my mind. As usual I try to keep up to date with authors and being problematic but I could have missed something,if there is an issue with someoone please let me know #maymentalhealthawarenessmonth #bookrecommendations #mentalhealthbooks ID in the first comment by @dreamingthroughreading

March is also Cerebral Palsy awareness month, and I have CP. I don't talk about it much and honestly don't read a lot about it either, its interestingly less of something i have searched to be seen in books of as of late. Although there isnt a whole lot of representation that I've found for the disability. I have only read two books from this list,Keah Brown's wonderful essay selections The Pretty One and Disability Visibilty which has some cerebral palsy rep but its not fully a book on it. Honestly Leg has been on my TBR for so long I forgot about it and I thought of Zach Anner again when writing this post but not till then. Have you read any of these? Do you have other non-fiction or memoir own voices with CP rep? There is something about there not being many books that on the one hand wants to make me write and on the other hand wants to make me dissapear(i dunno ill take it to therapy). Tell me what you've loved and what i missed. ID in first comment #bookrecommendations #cerebralpalsyawarenessmonth #ownvoices #nonfictionbooks #disabledauthor by @dreamingthroughreading

Although there isnt a whole lot of representation that I've found for the disability. I have only read where you see yourself by Claire in this fiction representation-its also why i labled the post as representation I found vs reccomendations. I tried Keah Browns novel after loving her essay series but didnt connect to it at the time. I also chose to try and share own voices here as I hadnt read them but trust each person to tell their stories rather than others writing about them. Have you read any of these books-what did you enjoy? Have you found other books with CP rep so much bonus if their queer. I have a non ficition post coming as well i needed it seperate for the feed and my brain lol. ID in first comment.

Trans Rights Readathon reads
I'm not officially taking part this year, but as a trans person who reads this rep all year long usually I'm trying not to feel too bad,as I'm living in a war zone both the countries im a citizen of are waging(unjust, beyond f-cked up and useless and im on the privilaged wrong side-but still living through the airraids) . This isnt even an exhaustive list of books ive read and reccomended,i made this compilation during remote masters classes cuz life keeps moving in weird ways. I'm looking for cozy joyful reps to currently read as I dont have enough rep in my currently reading list. Don't just read and enjoy Trans and Queer voices without fighting the opressive systems that have convinced you and the world, that us living our truth is more dangerous than colonialism and warheads that split and destruct. I’ve been spiraling through Alice Wong’s Disability Visibility and Disability Intimacy anthologies.

If you’ve been following my reviews here, you know how much I lean into stories to make sense of things. But reading Alice’s work hit me differently this time. It made me realize that as much as I share my own Queer and Trans journey with Cerebral Palsy, Autism, and ADHD to foster community, just sharing isn't enough. We need to be the ones actually writing the record.

I’m tired of our stories being filtered or included as an afterthought. We should be the foundation of the future archives.

So, with my advocacy brand Disabled Dreamer, I’m starting two anthology projects to make sure we’re documented exactly as we are:

✨ Project 1: The Triple Threat. Queer, Disabled, and Jewish. This one is so personal to me.
✨ Project 2: Queer & Disabled Narratives. The radical, complex, messy stuff.

This is about our stories, how we navigate rituals and identity with these bodies and brains. We aren’t monoliths. We’re a collection of stories that deserve to be cataloged properly.

I need my fellow neurodivergent and disabled /creators/readers to help me build this. Whether you have a story, some art, or you’re an editor/publisher who wants to help me navigate the "how-to" of this (because honestly, the executive dysfunction is real), I want to talk to you.
Link in bio for a very short, interest form, just a vibe check.
Please share and tag a publisher/editor or a writer below who needs to see this!

Your heart may be bruised at the end.
Saeed weaves a powerful heart-wrenching journey of what its like to grow up queer and black. I both read the book digitally and the audio version.I loved the audio one more,I always love when  the author gets to read their words especially poetry and poetic styling. It is an intense read so check trigger warnings or just be ready for a complicated journey though what life is like for a Queer Black man. I learned and felt plenty and can't wait to read more. Have you read Saeed's book? What other poetic memoir work have you read recently and reccomend? ID in first comment.

Felix Ever after is ever after in my mind. The artistry drew me in,I stayed for the trans realness on all levels. I sometimes struggle with connecting to YA books and its something I'm working on,but I didn't have to work very hard. When looking over many great reccomendations for Black History Month and reading diversly all year round,Felix Ever After came up again. It had been on my TBR for forever and one of my libraries had it available on audio so I dove in. The struggles and complexities got me on so many levels, with himself, his parents and coming out hit home so damn hard, friendships and dating and a cruel world somehow came together beautifully on canvas. I love the art exploration and the tie in from the cover that had me from the start. Its a stunning book, quite well written, and one of the books I'd say is under hyped even though people talk about it. If you read it and loved it drop what hit you and what similar books I should check out and if you havent read it go do it now.
